[QUOTE="Ace_WondersX"]This is a more interesting question. Why the cold air in a freezer smell good?

No way! I love that smell too!! At times I put my head in the freezer and just take a huge whiff!! er.....I should stop saying about good things smell now >__>
I do that too, I know we can't be the only ones that realize how good the air in freezers is.

People are missing how refreshing it is!!!I liked it, but when I found out what it would do to me, then I just stopped. The smell didn't appeal to me anymore.

People are missing how refreshing it is!!!Hmm, I've never been a fan of the smell, but I like the cold air rushing into my nose/mouth.[QUOTE="BladeOfHeaven"]I've always loved the smell of it, it's just so.....I don't know but it smells amazing. :PbronxxbombersSeconded. I back this up as well..such a great smell.
I hate the smell. Period.
I guess I can sort of relate how you guys actually like the smell in the gasoline, Since there are aromatics compound ( organic chemistry, a compound which actually smells nice, to everyone except me ) in it. A highly volatile, carcinogenic substance that they add into gasoline so that it combust better in car engines ( correct me if I'm wrong ). So the next time you decide to take another deep breath while in the gasoline station, don't forget your lungs are getting a kick from it as well ;)
And I love the smell of ethanol =)
If you take a look at all the most basic things that we think smell bad...
...you'll note that they are all things that humans should stay away from for their own healthy well-being. Exposure to any of the above things can result in death due to disease or poisoning. Over the years humans have evolved to dislike the smells of those things. In other words, the people that hated those smells survived more often because they avoided exposure. The ppl who liked those smells or were indifferent to them died more often because they didn't avoid exposure.
So you're probably asking, "Why doesn't gasoline smell bad? It's extremely toxic!" Gasoline didn't exist while we evolved over the countless years. As a result, some people like it, some people don't, some people are indifferent. No evolution occurred regarding this smell.
Note: The above post is my opinion. I didn't read this anywhere, so I could be wrong.
Gasoline smells very good. I don't actively seek it out though but when I happen to smell it, it's nice lol
ROFL...that's way too much LOL! I love it too...but I know how it tastes...it tastes badddd and you would want to get your stomach out once it's inside.Maybe you should drink some of it and see how it tastes.

[QUOTE="MrGeezer"]i believe the mild damage it causes to your brain has the same effect as pot, only weaker. physical highs u know. which is really what happiness is, so it translates to a good smellNot the same. Pot isn't harmful to the brain at all and huffin gasoline gives you the wah-wahsSort of inspired by the topic about alcohol tasting bad, but I thought it is different enough to warrant not bringing up in the other thread.
Anyway, does anyone else think that gasoline actually smells GOOD? Some will disagree, but I know I am not alone here. For many, there is just something very pleasing about the smell of gasoline.
And I find that very strange. Normally, the smell of volatile poisons is nauseating. As an example, the smell of alcohol. And yet, for some reason, gasoline smells good. Yes, gasoline is dangerous, and yes, we are not supposed to inhale that ****. And whenever I do smell gasoline, I make sure to not breathe too much of it in, because it is poisonous. And yet, the simple smell of it is absolutely captivating.
Does anyone know why this is? Why does gasoline smell so good? What is IN IT that smells so good, and WHY do those ingredients smell so delicious?

Perhaps it's the benzene and other aromatic hydrocarbons that you enjoy smelling?
From Wikipedia:
The term 'aromatic' was assigned before the physical mechanism determining aromaticity was discovered, and was derived from the fact that many of the compounds have a sweet scent.
It's a pity that they're not only toxic, but also carcinogenic.
:o
Smell receptors in the nose react chemically to different aromas, in the case of gasoline for some, it seems to excite them maybe? Otherwise its just an acquired smell growing up, one day you smelt it and instantly, subconsciously decided it was a good smell.
