Most people can't cook (well) anymore.
Blame McDonald's, microwave diners, and general laziness.

this isn't 1940's America wit hthe perfect housewife anymore. :PWe had the perfect housewife well into the 60's!hiitsmeiggi
I even had someone call me a "gourmet" (sic) because I knew that a pickle didn't grow on a tree and, rather, grew on a vine as a cucumber.mattbbpl
Woah, that's crazy. I mean, who knew pickles don't grow on trees?
Not when you consider the cost ;)[QUOTE="ariz3260"]
Compare to cooking, eating out is definitely the easy way out

When it comes to cost, dining in is probably more cost effective. For those who are constantly on the go, paying a little extra to fill the stomach is justified
Maybe because this isn't the 1950s anymore, where the woman was forced into being a homemaker, baby factory and cook. Or became a secretary or nurse.

.. Do we really want to compare ourselves to anything belonging in the 60's though ;)
Maybe because this isn't the 1950s any where the woman was forced into being a homemaker, baby factory and cook.sSubZerOoIn my mind it isn't so much an issue of women should do the cooking, but everyone should be able to cook. It's a basic life skill. And a delicious one!

.. Yeah true, but why wasn't this thread "Why can't any one cook any more?".. To me the OP was wondering why a sexist stereotype isn't so any more.
My wife couldn't cook anything but basic things when we got married. I didn't ask her to. Her place is by my side, not slaving over the kitchen for me. She wanted to go to a cooking class to learn, so we went. Now we can both cook, though I think I'm still the best. The grill settles that contest.
I think it's pretty chauvinistic and arrogant to think the woman's place is at the stove and at the helm of the vaccum cleaner. But hey, that's just me.

I would think differently if that vaccuum cleaner had a few chainsaws and a flamethrower attached to it.

Lol. You don't want to know what happened when I took her to the range to shoot her personal defense weapon.
My wife is an awesome cook. That said, anything barbecue or grilling she leaves to me.
I could cook somewhat. It's just that no one likes to eat my cooking except me. The only thing the rest of the family like me to cook is breakfast stuff like pancakes and fried eggs.
I cook better than any girl I know personally but because I love to cook and also am good at cleaning house I don't use that as an excuse to try and say that women in general do not clean or cook anymore.
Of the ones I have known some are good enough cooks just that I had more varied experience learning the cuisine of a few countries and having worked as a both a short order cook and a chef.
generalizations are dangerous and I would suggest that they not be used very often.
If she is cooking for you be greatful and cooking like anything else improves with practice. I was not always good but I learned.
Never tell a woman she can't cook....and you really should be supportive of your partner attempts, assuming you want them to stay your partner or become your partner
I don't know that it was forced into that position so much as an economy that afforded family's the luxury of a full time parent in the home, that combined with centuries of social custom. Being a homemaker isn't necessarily a bad thing, and I personally think it takes a hell of a lot more strength than going out into the work-a-day world.Maybe because this isn't the 1950s anymore, where the woman was forced into being a homemaker, baby factory and cook. Don't know..maybe it's just the way society has made them feel...they work as well..so they don't have time to cook?...Or maybe it's the fault of this generation of parents...they're too lazy to take time to show their children how to cook?..i would hope the girl i meet knows how to cook..otherwise we'll be eating the same few things pretty often :P..
And another stupid thing, women are supposed to cook, unless it's BBQ, that's supposed to be a man's job... how dumb is that?!TheFlush
Beats me. I never made those decisions. She did. If she does ask me to cook something, I do it.
From the people I always meet. The men are the cooks (either really really good cooks, or just ok) and the women would burn the house down or give the family food poisoning. As for cleaning it usually ends up being the man, or no one. Also, most men I meet who have familes seem to enjoy cooking, either because they love who they cook for or they just love cooking and would do it for anyone.
