Why does nobody have a face?

Whenever I'm cruising the forums, everyone's avatar is some image they gleaned off the internet. Except for that one user who's been hanging around here for the past few days with 30 posts, nobody has their own picture as their avatar... why?

Seriously though, I dunno, I think it'd just be kinda weird seeing a picture of me every single time I posted something. I do have a real-life photo up in the "About Me" section of my blog.

and why are you guys making the leap from "mug shot" to Facebook and Myspace? There's nothing about personal portraits that says "Oh, that reminds me of Myspace, because on Myspace you can put your photo up on your profile"

There are thousands of sites where users put their personal photos up as their avatars (most of the sites I've ever been to). I'm just wondering why Gamespot is different like this.

I dont find it weird people dont have photos of themselves as avatars. I mean this is a gaming site, why not have a photo promoting one of your favorite games? Likewise for music, tv shows, sports teams, etc. An avatar like that shows what people are into more than a photo of their face would.

Anyway, serious answer to the question is: the internet = anonymitity. Anonymitity = fun. It's like being invisible in the ladies locker room... kind of.

I dont find it weird people dont have photos of themselves as avatars. I mean this is a gaming site, why not have a photo promoting one of your favorite games? Likewise for music, tv shows, sports teams, etc. An avatar like that shows what people are into more than a photo of their face would.

But I would think that at least the occasional person would have their own picture posted.

Seeing as how your face isnt your avatar then ask yourself this question and theres a common answer. I could post my face but id feel like a sore thumb and its nice to have this level of animosity on the forums, plus i think jets are one of the most awesome things ever.

I'd just never even thought of it. I've always just sort of had this Rush avatar and I've never thought of changing it.

I didn't say it wasn't interesting, I've always thought that in the 'Post your picture' threads, nobody ever posts their picture... But rather talks about it.
