You ever notice smoking = automatically badasry.

Only particular people can pull it off. It's because they already are. It's the same with everything else.BranKetraI agree, I couldn't pull of smoking. I'm too clean looking.
It doesn't. You people who believe that have just been brainwashed by the media. Do you think it's a coincidence a drug that increases your chances of cancer and a whole bunch of other negative health effects just happens to be "cool"?
[QUOTE="AussieePet"]Its not so cool for the people who have been smoking for 30 years.Cause smoking is cool

Like my mum!
Because having an addiction that harms you and costs thousands of dollars in the long run makes you cooler than everyone else around you.
I learned it from my free brouchure I got from the tobacco companies! Look that guy hasa hole in his neck but he's still smoking because he's cool! Ya!

Does your mom smoke anything else other than cigarettes? Just curious. Nope why ?[QUOTE="themajormayor"][QUOTE="TwoFace-BS"]Because dumb people think it doesTwoFace-BSYou think smoking looks cool? No But you sad dumb people think it does. This doesn't make sense. I think science just imploded or something.
Because you're breaking the rules of society. You stand out. You're challenging medical authority. You're challenging religious authority (in some cases). It requires money to fund smoking. And, it's been marketed to be cool, and we've been conditioned to assume it is cool, when in reality, it really damages your health and uses up a lot of your money.michaelP4
Well it's mostly just the market tool as that's how it was in the 1950's and below. Everyone smoked back then and it was just part of society, today it might be seen as rebeillious by some stupid people but tobacco companies target teenagers as they are easier to get to start.
I've read some books on the human brain and when someone is a teenager they are easily to maniuplate with crowds and what not. Kinda like when I was in school I saw alot of kids wearing Hollister or Abercrombie shirts, and they did that because everyone else (or so they thought) was wearing it. It's not until people reach adult years that the brain becomes more focused on being their own individual and identity and not caring about others perceptions ect...

It's weird though, I dress similarly to other kids at my school but I swear I wasn't influenced by them. Maybe we do this unconsciously ?Because you're breaking the rules of society. You stand out. It's weird though, I dress similarly to other kids at my school but I swear I wasn't influenced by them. Maybe we do this unconsciously ?I'm not a brain expert I just read some books on it, but I don't think it just means that because you dress like them you'll be influenced perse. Mabey you just genuinly like the clothes/style, but there are alot of things like a new band that has marketing behind it comes out and alot of kids will buy clothes to dress like the band members because they are trying to find a sense of identity but don't have it yet, once they become adults their brain matures and become their onw identity based off of themselves and not anything else.
It could also be because as a teenager you don't want to feel like your different so you unconciously dress like that to fit in. I don't know I'm not in school anymore and when I was I didn't dress like other kids, I was crazy lol. There is a documentary (yes I watch documentaries, I'm boring lol) called "the merchants of cool" and you can watch it for free, I think it was on PBS but I saw it on Discovery. Anyway it shows how corprorations know how the teenager brain works and how to take advantage of that for money. Tobacco companies target audience are kids, even though they arn't allowed to smoke, but the process is kinda similar.
For instance in the video they show these old hip hop artists to some kids and at first they didn't like them, but then they showed them a video of the hip hop artists on a stage in fron of a huge crowd of people (the people in the crowd were just actors, but it was made to look real) and the kids in the study thought the band was awesome and started buying their stuff because of that. The band was sponsored by Coke and MTV and that's how alot of things work, wonder why Justing Bieber was so popular? Same thing, smoking is simialr.
Sorry for the long read, I talk too much sometimes, but I find science and stuff interesting :P
Because smoking is cool. Like many of you angry ten year olds have pointed out, smoking gives you cancer and harms your body derp de derp, but cool people do it anyway, because f*ck cancer, they want some nicotine, like a boss. Anybody who regularly holds fire up to their face for fun is a risk taking ninja mother*cker. Fact. Fire burns, they just ain't giving no sh*ts. one errant gust of wind and that facial hair is gone, so what, i'm too cool for that sh*t. Yeeeeah.Chevolutionary
If the fire from your cigarette is large enough to potentially burn your facial hair off then you're doing it wrong.
LOL...what?It may make you look cooler but I doubt that Satan or anyone else in hell will give a damn that you looked cool after you die from lung cancer.
