The only reason that matters, the largest one and the one that warrants their full support in any relevant matter, is the U.S. needing a stable country in the middle east, due to their energy resources (read: oil).

Nah, I think Turkey is pretty decent as well.Israel has the only sane and non theocratic government in the region.

That's the justification we like to give.
But we all know the real reason was bribery...just like the real reason we went into Iraq is to make lots of money off of Iraq's natural oil deposits.

Suppose Congress received absolutely no bribes from Jewish lobbyist groups.
Would we really have chosen Israel to prop up and support, despite being surrounded by enemies?
Or would we have backed a different country instead?

naw, politicians just act like they care for the jewish vote and support.

And yet they neglect the Muslim vote and support?
It seems more like a case of bribery.
Muslim support doesn't count for much apparently. By support I meant "donations" and other such monetary contributions.
I guess I should of put quotation marks on support to underline the seedy nature of such support.

No, it doesn't. Here:
1.) Several countries in the middle east have oil.
2.) Israel is in the middle east! Sadly, it does not have oil ( :( ).
3.) U.S. forges an alliance with Israel and turns it into a military power in the region. They give it money, resources and military aid to have influence in the region. With that...
4.) They secure indirect control over the oil, which is what they really needed! Well, what the developed west needed. A country in the middle east on which they could rely, preferrably with or neighbouring those with oil.
I really could make this more elaborate, but your reply wasn't. So that's that.
"Muslim countries get aid money as well. :|"
You can't really compare the aid Muslim countries get compared to the aid the US gives to Israel, military and financially.
Anyway, that's my two cents. Sorry for the delay, was in a match.

Japan? Oh boy, now there's a topic I'm familiar with. Where should I start? Put aside the fact that their US imposed constitution demands that they be pacifist or the fact that they are under the protection of the US, thus benefitting from US military strength without being tainted by the negatives. Japan's foreign aid policy is just as selfish if not more so than the United States'. You want to curry favor with resource rich African nations, send them food. China getting to powerful in your neighborhood? Send aid to some of your poorer neighbors or build a couple bridges. UN needs more money? Sure why not. There are alot of positive words that I would use to describe the Japanese people, but caring and charitable are not two of them. There are alot of stereotypes of Asians always going with the group, but with the Japanese it is undeniably true...and on steroids. For the most part, they will help you so long as it is socially necessary and/or acceptable, but do anything thatcauses embarrassmentand they will drop you faster than a ninja disappears in a puff of smoke:P. That being said, I do admire Japan and her people. I'm just more cognisant of the reality ofJapanthan most people who've never lived there.Edit: Sorry to be off-topic. You can back to the regularly scheduled US-Israeli program now.
Then this mean the Jews are responsible for 9/11?It's the Jewish lobbying group that bribes Congress to support Israel under any circumstances.
If it wasn't for the bribery, the U.S. wouldn't care very much about Israel at all.
peterw007
The Jewish Vote? Please, there are like 5 million Jews in the US.Elections.
It's all about AIPAC and the massive amount of money they give to politicians + the entire Jewish vote.
For the average American however, we couldn't give a rat's ass about Israel.

Israel does have oil.Simple really. US has a problem with most of the Arab countries an wants to protect it's interest in oil; Israel is an ally and happens to be located near the Arab countries. It's all about proximity.

Israel does have oil.Discovery of possibly (as in, not sure and not being extracted yet) large reserves of oil in Israel is recent, as in, last year. It's also not the reason: as I said, roughly 18% of the U.S. oil (national and international) is from the middle east (notably Iraq and Saudi Arabia)

There are reserves of oil in Israel that is being extracted though.

The actions of Congress are determined by whoever bribes them with the most money, while the thoughts and opinions of the majority are absolutely useless.
It's good that you're starting to see the inherent corruption of our political structure.
This is precisely why the political model of a Democratic Republic is heavily flawed.

No the thoughts and opinions of the majority aren't pointless....but since the voter turn out is low....those who DO vote will always be taken more seriously than those who don't. Period. Please Log In to post.
