[QUOTE="ElArab"]That sounds like it could be a great movie. Yeah its called V for vendettaYeah I want to get a lot of money, mail everyone masks, hats, and capes, and then blow up monuments with an orchestra playing, preferably the 1812 overture, and then fireworks going off, and we run up and be like "OVERTHROOOOOW, OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMEEENT! YEAH!"
After I made a speech that played on everyone's T.V.'s and computers of course.
-but **** that, I'm too lazy.

And then what? We rebuild society into a grand utopia without the affairs of evil government institutions?
Dracargen
Don't forget evil corporate institutions.
[QUOTE="ThaSod"][QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]You couldn't do anything with a revolt when society is this far along. Which sucks because me and many others really dislike how lifeless and uncultured our current society is.ElArab
are you kidding? Our culture is certainly one of the most vibrant to have ever graced this earth.
Warning, teh bad language is contained in this horrible link.

That's how I've seen things now, our culture has just...died.
So true and so sad.[QUOTE="JackMcSexbeard"][QUOTE="Berzz"][QUOTE="JackMcSexbeard"][QUOTE="Berzz"][QUOTE="JackMcSexbeard"][QUOTE="mrbojangles25"][QUOTE="Berzz"]Why would we? People have jobs and money. What else do they need?mrbojangles25
exactly
maybe a life thats more then just having a job to make some abstract concept known as money so we can exchange that for meaningless crap.
Do you really think people want that?
no but its what we do.
That's the problem. People are afraid of risking what they have for a new, more meaningful life.
Yes, its kind of sad. Every human has such great potential but I feel that life is essentially thrown away for what? A nice corner office or the nice parking spot at the front of the office? I dont mean to disrespect anyone who works in these kinds of jobs and isnt satisfied w/ their life, but isnt there something more? something beyond the status quo?
unfortunatly a revolution could never happen, not in the us, we are too comfortable, we think we have it so good competeing with each other and for what? we work so hard but were working for others never ourselves. Nothings wrong with good honest labor but is that all there is? I dont know this is kind of depressing.
really? a corner office?
No, not really. I enjoy my job, I am a chef. I get to practice my hobby, create art, and make people happy at the same time al while making money.
I then take this money, and purchase video games and pay my rent and bills, which in turn increases my happiness.
I dont know where this ideal world you talk about is, but the real world that exists now is pretty damn good if you ask me.
*I do agree, howeve. There is nothing wrong with honest labor, but my motto is "work to live, dont live to work."
Yea sorry I actually in large part agree with what your saying and thats great that you live like that and nothings wrong with it. I was being more over dramatic then usual and criticized something in more general terms than I meant to. You seem to lead a great life thats awsome. I was critiqueing more the fact that while many of us have a pretty comfortable existence we seem to be too comfortable when we could always strive for something better then what we have, even if what we have now is great.
Also while your leading what seems to be a very fullfilling life, thats not the way it is for alot of the population. Of course im merely speculating from what I see and hear and encounter but as great as your motto is, I think for alot of people its the reverse. As Americans we rarely go overseas, the majority watch reality television, eat fast food, dont read, we work lobger hours then we ever have before. While you and im sure alot of people lead great lives on this board and out in the world, alot of people are stuck in unsatisfying jobs which often times someone has to do or they do it only because they need the money. Of course it wouldnt be so bad if people had the time or desire to learn about more cultures, read or turn off the television, of course alot of people find satisfaction in the lives Im labeling as "unsatisfying" and thats fine too.
I know im comming off as a pessimist but Im actually an optomist about what people are capable of and what the future holds, It's that sometimes it saddens me to find that so many people are not leading the fullfilling live they, as a human being were meant to lead. Also when im talking about money as some abstract thing, you seem to get along fine with it and have found a balence at where its importance lies however with too many people it becaomes too important. Not only for some of the very wealthy but the poor who must work often times two jobs and work pay check to pay check, is that all they have in life? of course people can say they can work out of it but can they? Im just saying too often people dont lead lives that they have the potential to lead as human beings. I think too some extent we all do this but its sad when someone isnt living to their potential.

I agree to an extent.
To often is the order of life, in the US atleast: k-12 education, college, job, then maybe the occasional camping trip with your mate and offspring.
People are not meant to work over 8 hours frequently; it just isnt right. And too often is this the only option for many people.
I wish I could go to every single high school and say "Kids, wait! Dont feel pressured to go to college! Youre only 18! College will always be there but your 18-24 years of life wont be!" Work a crap-but-fun job for a couple years, take some classes at a junior college, and most of all...TRAVEL! Lord knows you wont have time to travel once you start working a serious job.
The biggest problem personally is this pressure I get from my parents. I went to a great college, I got a degree in a field that (fortunately) is in high demand while many jobs are not. But I dont want to do it. I am happy making 12 bucks an hour and working my ass off, I enjoy it. I dont want to wear a lab coat (yet) and work in a lab coming up with artificial flavors and adding to the obesity epidemic that I likely would if I landed that job I could have had at Frito Lay.
I guess what I am saying is that a mass revolution is a bad idea right now because the freedoms we have are pretty damn good relative to the rest of the world. Personal revolutions, however, are a good option and I feel I am waging my own as we speak.
Cause we're lazy, for the most part we're fine with the way things are, plus a revolution is unrealistic.Umm, I guess.
AM I RIGHT?

for the most part you said what I was trying to say better then I could so thanks. I agree with what your saying though about personal revolutions because how could we create our own and what would we try to revolutionize? I suppose the system but its so broad and what does it even mean? In the end we would need to change ourselves like you were saying because were too comfortable for a revolution and we dont even know really what to rebel against or if it could even be effective. None of its really too cut and dry.
