Why don't people treat their cars/trucks better or say they are just a car?

I mean a lot of people and I would say around 65% of people just do not care about their cars. They drive them into the ground, beat on them, drive them around while being broken in someway which ruins them even more, never washes them, eats inside...ect? I mean I know there are a lot of people out there who just say... "its just a car to go from point a to point b and it works". I dont get it!?!? I think that even if you dont want to think about it like that or even admit it depending on the car you drive, it is really an extension of you. Its a little piece of you that is in machine form. I guess I dont see where people are coming from on this one? Even if you dont recognize it, you bought that Honda civic because in real life, you are a honda civic. Or me, I bought a mustang with a stickshift because yes, that fits my personality to a tee once I think about it, I am a ramrod, I love the smell of burnt exhaust, rear-wheel drive, and quick.

I think your estimate is high. Most people take care of the upkeep and maintenance on their vehicles.

i have a peugeot 106, my mum bought it for me because she is the one with money, its not an extension of my self, it doesnt match my personality becuase i didnt choose it and i treat it in the same way that i treat the house that i am currently living in, as a half way point to something better in the future, i dont take especially good care of it because frankly its a crap car, but right now my insurance would cost more than this house if i had anything better.

I don't buy a car because I love it. I buy a car to get around, and over time grow to love it. It becomes a piece of you. You don't buy something that is already part of you, or you wouldn't have to pay for it.

If I didn't have to drive thirty minutes to get to school, I wouldn't have a car because I don't enjoy driving.

I have one truck- a Chevy 2500 HD that I take care of and I have really made it look nice.

I have 4 crappy trucks that I keep on the farm for rainy days to go muddin in. I got all 4 of them for free though. I would never take my 2500 HD through the mud.

I know people who beat up their vehicles like that, but they like to fix them anyway so they don't mind
