I feel the love.....Anyway, religion is BS...just made up stories and beliefs which contradict each other in so many ways and there is absolutely no evidence to support them. The very purposes for the creation of certain religions are questionable...and leadership of some is very corrupt.
These are the main reasons (that I can currently think of) why someone would follow a religion:
1- People asked many questions which could not be answered, therefore stories where made up to answer them (more understandable for people to believe these explanations in the past when things could not be explained, but now many things often can be due to advancements in science)
2- People are scared of being alone in this vast universe, and are scared of death...so they convince themselves that there is an afterlife and some purpose to our existence. (seems to me like you are trying to fool yourselves)
3- Some people are just brought up to believe in a particular religion, because of parents or that's how they were educated etc. It's hard not believe in something which you have always assumed to be correct.
I don't blame anyone for wanting to believe there is more to life and although it may not seem like it i do respect other people's beliefs...but to me it does not seem realistic.
How is it different? You believe in Jesus, you love the Church, you believe in the bible, you believe in sin but you're not a part of a religion called Christianity? You hate it?Stavrogin_
He actually mentioned somewhere down the line that Christianity of different from religion, it's not a religion.

It's amazing how incredibly flawed many of his points are. Just another typical person today who believes personal interpretation is the way to go. ferrari2001His points are not flawed at all. Historically, people in positions on power have used Christianity to only further their power. Many aspects of The Church are arrogant, proud, and hateful. These are not the teachings of Christ. Arrogance, pride, and hate are all evil according to Jesus. His teachings are about love, and the Church has a nasty habit of not teaching love. This is why many people turn away from Christ; His words are warped to fit an evil agenda. Power corrupts.

And this is why he said in the video : Religion is man searching for god, Christianity is god searching for man. He's separating Christianity from religion, but Christianity fits the very definition of religion. He claimed he hates religion as the video title, but he doesn't live up to that promise, and continously being inconsistent in his video, initially claiming Jesus is differ from religion, and later sneaking into the idea that Christianity is differ from other religions.
He claim he believe in sin, love the bible, love the church, and believe Jesus is the son of god, well guess what! that makes you religious, so don't even go around pretending you hate religion, just to get people's thumbs up because you know religion is no longer popular, and if you make a video praise religion you would not get nearly as much views. The thumbs up comes from so called "Atheist" who probably only saw the title and decided to like the video.
The video should be titled: I love religion, and I believe in religion, I just hate certain organized inteepretation of Christianity, and I want to start a new branch.
I don't actually dislike the video that much, the the video title is misleading, what he's saying is not consistent.

Which is all completely contradicted in one line.
Now let me clarify, I love the church, I love the Bible, and yes I believe in sin
At best his argument is "I hate all religions except Christiniaty" and even then there's still a lot of hypocrisy.

i just saw like 1 min of the video but it is basically an attempt of diverting the dislike religion gets from the religion as a whole to the religious institutions blaming them and saying religion is ok and everything bad that religion has is because the institutions and not religion itself, which is bs.

Today I just read a blog talking about that very video. I think the blog makes good points and refutes the video quite well. Here is what the blog said:
But he also gets a lot of things wrong. Let's engage some of Bethke's questions.
Bethke asks: "What if I told you Jesus came to abolish religion?"
Well, Jefferson, I'd direct you to Jesus' own words, in Matthew 5:17: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have come not to abolish but to fulfill."
Or Matthew 16:18-19 (Jesus to Peter: "On this rock I will build my church … whatever you bind on earth is bound in heaven," etc.)
Or John 20:22-23 (Jesus to apostles: "if you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not…" etc.)
Or Mathew 18:17 (Jesus to apostles: "if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan …" etc.)
Bethke asks: "What if I told you …. just because you call some people blind / Doesn't automatically give you vision."
I'd say, yes, Jefferson. That is absolutely true … and ironic, in a poem where you are calling two millennia of religious Christians blind and suggesting that you have vision.
Bethke asks: "I mean if religion is so great, why has it started so many wars?"
I would answer — apart from the fact that those who oppose religion have killed more in one century than the religious killings of two millennia — that there's a logic fail, here.
You could just as easily say: "If feeding your children is so great, why has it started so many wars?" or "If defending your fiefdom against marauding barbarian rapists is so great, why has it started so many wars?"
What you have to do is specify the wars and the motivations involved in order for us to answer your question.
Bethke asks: "Why does [religion] build huge churches, but fails to feed the poor."
Again, Jefferson, you need to be careful, since you love Jesus.
You might as well ask:
"Why did the baby Jesus receive ornate gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh instead of feeding the poor? Why was Jesus presented in the Temple, if the money for the Temple should have gone to the poor? When he was lost, why did his parents find him in the Temple preaching, instead of serving the poor? Why did he angrily drive the money-changers out of the Temple saying 'zeal for my Father's house consumes me,' instead of angrily driving the tax-collectors to serve the poor saying 'zeal for the poor consumes me'?"
And you have to realize, Jefferson, that if you put this question to Jesus, he will give you the same answer he gave the apostles when they saw Jesus annointed with costly perfume and asked, in Matthew 26:8-9, "Why this waste? It could have been sold for much, and the money given to the poor." (Look up his answer!)
And I have a question for you. Why are you spending all this money on a fancy video, when it could have been given to the poor?
I love what Jefferson Bethke has to say about the Church, however ( though what he means by the Church is unclear): "It's not a museum for good people, it's a hospital for the broken" is a great old line.
But the poem states its case most succinctly when it says:
"[R]eligion says do; Jesus says done
Religion says slave; Jesus says son
Religion puts you in bondage; while Jesus sets you free
Religion makes you blind, but Jesus makes you see."
Apart from some factual problems (Actually, Jesus says "do" quite a lot, and he swaps the word "slave" for "friend," not "son" in John 15:5) I think we need to defend the name of Jesus here.
Jesus was a lover of the Temple, a fulfiller of the law, the one who established the Church, and the one who calls the Christian Church his body.
While "religion" has as many downsides as any human thing, Christianity became a "religion" from the beginning: From St. Peter setting dietary rules to St. Paul setting the Eucharistic formula, to St. John writing to the churches that they need to get their act together, etc.
In fact, the afterlife is described in the book of Revelation as a religious liturgical service.
So I leave it to Jefferson Bethke to explain how he accounts for those problems in order to love Jesus without loving any vestige of "religion."
I would leave him with one warning, though. At one point, Bethke asks: "But if Jesus came to your church would they actually let him in?" (Mine definitely would.)
Bethke should ask himself: "If it turns out that Jesus really did found a religion, will I love him still?"

He titled he hates religion period, he did not say, I hate certain organized religious intepretation of Christianity. But Christianity is a religion itself , you can't believe in sin, love the bible, and love the church (yes, he actually said this, so carefully watch the video),and believe Jesus is the son of god, while hate the religion, that's absolutely ridiculous, he's definitely contradicting himself.
he's being sneaky and directing the poem from Jesus being different from religion, and that he hates religion, to slowly becoming, Christianity is the only truth, it's differ from other religions, and he believes in Christianity and god, so the claim that he hates religion is really used to grab attention if anything.
and the claim that he's a follower of Jesus, but he's not religious is also ridiculous because, first of all he said he love the church in that video.and how can you claim that you love Jesus, and that Jesus is completely 100% differ from religion, then later claim that he's indeed the son of the god, and and Christianity is the truth, and that you love the bible, you love the church, because guess what the bible said, guess what Jesus preached all those years ago, yes, religion.
I mean if I go around and say I'm the truth, the son of god, then I cannot declare that I'm 100% different from religion, in fact, what I'm doing is that I'm creating an entirely new religion.
Get lost, you silly twaat. Good call[QUOTE="AussieePet"]
