Because Islam is a root cause of a lot of suffering. You can deny it all you want but you are just fooling yourself. Name anything good that has come from believing in Islam. Anything? I can not think of one thing. But i can sure name a lot of bad things...

Because there's an astounding amount of ignorance about Islam in the United States in particular. (I'm an atheist, by the way)

No it isn't this show base ignorance of history.. Religion has little to do with social standards, look no further than the history of Christianity.. Their followers were not gentle, selfless, or accepting.. They were the exact opposite.. Christianity only 200 years ago would be considered unacceptable by today's standards if it did not change from that.. Islam is in the exact same place, they are being practiced in third world countries, countries political and economically unstable.. Say if the United States collapsed and turned into a third world country, I garentee you will see the exact same behavior.

Not everyone is against Islam. I'd say the majority however are against Radical Islam, which, I'm sure nearly everyone knows that it disregards even the very basic principles in Islam. The thing that makes Islam different to other religions is that it's not as old as other religions. It hasn't had the same amount of time to develop like other religions have. I'd say the reason that nearly everyone is against Radical Islam is because it threatens their freedom, due to the extreme views on how Islam is interpreted by adherents to Radical Islam. I believe that people who are against Radical Islam have very good reason for it.

A lot of people are against the belief of Islam simply because of how often the media portrays the religion as one of the main grounds as to the root cause of 9/11 and since 90% of the American population tends to believe that it is good to never question the government and the reports of the media, then it all must be true. There are so many ways that Islam has been slammed by the media and subsequently by people following the reports like sheep that have to do with other "dislikes" besides the supposed involvment in 9/11. Rights of Women is probably the most widely used excused for being against Islam next to the people involved in 9/11 and their religion attributed to them. A lot of people dislike Islam and its beliefs because people in general are just gullible.

What he said. Instead of actually trying to educate themselves about Islam, North Americans especially listen too diligently to the media and thus see all Muslims as terrorists : /

Maybe because right or wrong, Muslim ppl seem to have large amount of negative press (from around the world) which will affect reactions to them on a local level.

Well im against islam as much as any religion, i dont mind people practising it just dont expect me to give you much of a head start when it comes to respecting you.

Personally i think Islam is doing the same thing that Christianity did in the middle ages which was to holt progression in most of the areas its in. Lets face it you dont see many inventions or technological progression comming from places like the middle east, i may be wrong but thats the way i see it at the moment.

It's all ignorance, really. I personally have nothing against Islam; not just because I've lived in a Muslim country for over 10 years in total, but because I have enough intellect and knowledge regarding the religion to know that there's nothing bad or disagreeable about it, and should be accepted without question.

Pat Condell has quite an interesting view on the subject (Warning: strong language and possibly offensive content). Can't say I've got my own opinion, though, as I'm pretty ignorant about religion in general.

Everyoen isn't against Islam. Certain members of Islam are against everyone. That rubs some people the wrong way and project their feelings toward those individuals against everyone.

Religion can be a very powerful force for bad as well as good. It's silly to feign a politically correct respect (or loathing) for any religion before understanding what its clerics are preaching.

They are against the Shiites for their beliefs and against those people of the Islamic nation that allow their women to wear normal updated clothing etc... On top of that they are against any countries government that has any control whatsoever inside of 'their territory' and will kidnap and kill anyone and everyone to achieve their goals. I would call that against everyone.

Islam, even more so than most religions, is ultra-conservative. I disagree with the religion's stance on pretty much everything.

u got the first part all rong, sunni and shiite are two parts of islam just like roman catholic or protestant. sunni and shiite obviously dont get along because of beliefs but the differences are so minor that even here in dearborn which is the highest percent population of middle easterners in the us, go to the same mosque.

Because the terrorist are the ones who actually follow it, while the muslims who pick and choose what they follow are the ones who dont cause problems. Also the whole "kill anyone who likes jesus!"

That was exactly my point... I'm well aware that they are different categories of Islam. I didn't ever state that the Shiites weren't Islamic. Therefor I didn't get it 'all wrong'.
