Why is it ok to kill certain animals, but not others?

Anyone that kills an animal for fun is at the very least a suspicious individual in my book. Except for kids (not teens, I mean small children) who don't really know what they're doing.

Actually I heard that dogs taste really good.

I would go crazy if someone ate my dog, but that is because he is a pet.

If I kill a chicken to make myself chicken parmesan... nobody bats an eye.  BUT, if I kill a dog to skin it and then use him as a door mat there is great outrage.  I can kill thousands of fish for fun, but if I kill one cat for fun it's the end of the world.  How do you make sense of this?

It's not difficult to explain why: cat and dog taste like ass.

because certain animals taste good and are easy to kill/raise, while others do not taste good, and are a pain in the ass to kill/raise.

Its easy to have a chicken ranch and kill them by the thousands, but a shark farm? Fuggedaboudit

It's because of the human relationship with the animal. Dogs are taken into a household as a pet and friend and not thought of as good in western society. That goes back to our ancient bond in the initiation of the domestication. Chickens and cows were bred for food. There's really nothing more to it.
