Because they're 3 hours long. If the films is very good then 3 hours long won't feel like it, but your body will still remind you that sitting around for 3 hours is going to be tiring.

I think it really depends how interesting the game is to you. Despite being long, if the game is interesting all the way through, and the fact that every game requires your attention, time could go by quickly.

Hmm, I guess the interaction plays a big part then.

Films should be 2 hours long, maximum. Anything longer than that has to be really good to warrant the extra minutes.

I'd say it's probably because when you play a game, you're interacting with it. You're keeping your body occupies by controlling what's happening. It sucks you into that world and time just passes by.

When you're watching a movie, you're sitting there, watching people on the screen do things.

Because 3 hours is long for a movie and 8 hours is short for a game. You're suppose to participate in a game, and a lot of games also have cut scenes and such. If a game played out like a movie rather than, say, a project, then it'd be one hell of a boring game...

I played Morrowind GOTY for hours on end and didn't WANT to go to sleep but, eventually I did fall asleep. I enjoyed watching Titanic and didn't get too tired. Maybe it depends on the mood your in I guess.

One thing that also has to be taken into account is which form of entertainment you prefer. Are you a video game person, or are you a movie person? It seems pretty obvious that you are a video game person, and would prefer playing a game over watching a movie. I, on the other hand, have a hard time focusing on video games for long (believe it or not), but can watch movies all day. Some games, of course, i fall in love with, and want to play nonstop, but thats often not the case. Also, we are , in my opinion, living in a cinematic ADD world. People mainly see the latest action movie or bad comedy or whatever, which usually doesn't have much of a story, and rarely lasts more than 90 minutes (the comedys at least, action movies often pass the 2 hour mark due to their big action climax.) So, (in my opinion) are minds aren't use to it. however, i feel movies SHOULD tell a story, and take their sweet time doing it, because it's hard ho really care about a character in a 90 minute picture. Do you think the Lord of The Rings or The Dark Knight would have been better if it was shorter? Two of the most celebrated films of the past twenty-five years are quite long. Both are in the book "1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die): The Best Of Youth (2006, 6 hours long), and Shoah (1985, 9 hours long)

Depends on the movie really but to me movies that are 3 hours feel long because you've been sitting on your butt for 3 long hours staring at a big screen. With video games, I rarely spend more than 3 hours at a time. Normally I spend 1 or 2 hours on them.

You are so right. LoTR would have failed if it was shorter. In fact, the extended edition was so much better.

It's like a long car journey - you feel tired because you're forced to sit there inactively for a long time - it's really not that easy. I reckon some films rely on their ability to wear you out to provoke an emotional response. Titanic was a good example - My ex normally wouldn't have given a toss about such characters, but after 3 hours, she was too drained to put up any defence and was in floods of tears.

Your mind is more active playing video games. In movies you just sit and watch.

What I want to know is why I struggle reading a book on one day, but can read a book upwards of 12 hours the next.
