[QUOTE="MattUD1"][QUOTE="wemhim"][QUOTE="MattUD1"][QUOTE="wemhim"][QUOTE="firebreathing"]I listen to what I like, if you think it's because it's part of some sort of "fad" then you can go **** yourself. Yes, a lot of music today does suck, name a couple bands that can play like Rush, Primus, Van Halen and so forth. There's just such a lack of originality. Those aren't metal..VH can go either way. Hard Rock or Heavy Metal.

I can't be the only one to post this. :p
You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were smited to the ground
New wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal
Hahahahaha they failed as they were thrown to the ground
(Screaming) Aiieee Aiieee
(Harmonizing)
No one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know
New wave tried to destroy the metal
But the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But the metal was in the way
Punk rock tried to destroy the metal
But metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal
But techno was proven wrong
Yeah!
Metal!
It comes from hell
Want to know why people list more abstract bands? Because your trashy whored out Metallica Iron Maiden (new stuff is trash), Nightwish and Dragonforce are garbage. The songs are worthless and not even worth the bandwidth for somebody to "steal". I'd much rather listen to, say, Nifhelheim or Arthemesia or Tartaros, or any number of bands that are lesser known because their sound is much closer to what they began with or what their respective sub-genre is. Satyricon, for example, has gone from some good black metal to mediocre stuff that could be somewhat considered pop and is definitely radio fodder.AsinineZomg:lol: Iron Maiden? Metallica? Worthless?
I agree with the "I like this band that you've never heard of" comment. apparently it makes them feel really cool to like a band that nobody has ever heard of.

I don't understand why people jump all over people who list groups that not many people have heard of as their favorites.
Now, if they are listing unknown groups and saying anything mainstream is trash, fine, then they are ignorant, but simply liking fairly unknown groups...i see nothing wrong with it.
Me for example, if i listed all the groups i listen to most be might know half of them...do i say this to "sound cool"? No, but it is just a fact. I like a lot of fairly obscure older music, and a lot of local and indie talent, so when if i list music i like a lot of people will have no clue what i'm talking about. I don't say that all mainstream music sucks, i simply don't listen to a lot of it (mainly because to many groups get overplayed on the radio, the same music is played at a saturating level i get sick of it) Music that is mainstream has a very different sound from groups that never achieve mainstream status, that is just a fact.

I wouldn't even accept the festering pile of feces for free.
Wow, you were NEVER a metal fan to begin with. Actual metal fans know tons of obscure bands or bands which people aren't familiar with only because they love to seek ought new genres within the music and expand thier pallettes, not to seem badass but obviously in your mind, it's purely to seem cool. You obviously, have stuck to bands which are played on the radio 24/7 such as Metallica and Iron Maiden. Since when were AC/DC and Zeppelin metal? You don't even know who CoB is, a fairly popular metal band which is pretty damn sad. I've been listening to metal for 8 years, from 13-21 and although I do get tired of a particular band after a while, listening to a new riff in an ACTUAL metal band still sends shivers down my spine. Yes, I don't go out of my way to dress as metal as I did in my youth but still wear metal t's for the most part. Americans into metal-or those who even think they are- as you think they know metal by hearing Iron Maiden and Metallica (something Megadeth) when in all honesty, you have no clue. Metalheads are undoubtedly of the most passionate about thier music, buying up more music cds by thier artist than any other genre and searching for more. When people in a metal tshirt pass one another, they both knod in each others direction and occasionally start up a chat. How many times does this happen with other genres and how is this a fad.
In summation you were never into metal and you have no right in the world to criticize those who are into it.

Ironically...you've proven his point for him.

And from every "pile of mediocrity" some damn good bands come out. Just because they don't whore themselves out to giant record labels like Sony or Warner it doesn't mean they're not good.
So, why don't you go back and listen to your garbage Metallica-- the teeny-pop new Metallica and the medicore trash they spewed 10 or 15 years ago-- and keep pretending to be a /b/tard.
 b tard? And you're on a gaming forum  You forget that most musicians want to share their music and make some money in order to buy food, so eventually they will sign to the relapse, century medias, earache, metal blades, roadrunners, nuclear blasts of the world. Whether they decide to "whore themselves" is a different story. And from every "pile of mediocrity" some damn good bands come out. TC = has some serious self-esteem insecurity issues.
Why in hell do you even care?
There are people that simply have different taste in music, to each their own. Get over youself. There are people that actually think for themselves and find ways of enjoying music, whether mainstream, indie or not.
And why in hell would you give up on metal or believing it to be a fad, simply because a few members on a forum proclaim metal as "godly" or sporting thier favorite bands as an avatar? Maybe because they love that type of band or genre?
I don't like metal (or hip-hop/rap for that matter) either, but people can like it and I'm fine with it...it's just personal taste. I just don't like it when they make it their whole life and brag about it like it's the "BEST THING EVVAR!". I think that's basically what you said, but that can happen with any person and any genre, not just metal. Sometime in the future it may be all about techno for all we know. (Not trying to bash techno, BTW.)
Like I've just started to really get interested in indie bands, but I'll still listen to other genres like Christian stuff...my iPod ranges from Switchfoot and Relient K to Muse, Klaxons, the Decemberists, et cetera. I've listened to R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet," but that's as far as I'll go with the hip-hop/R&B/rap scene. I'm just not into it myself.
What it all boils down to is personal taste. Just don't go to far as to think it's the only good music out there.;)
I cant realy call myself an ex metal fan, cause i still like some of the bands i used to listen too back in my teenage years.......I did the whole long hair black clothes thing.....I still hate hip hop, but I admit its music. I used to think that Rap/hip hop wasnt real music cause they didnt realy play anything,,,they just mixed trax and rapped....plus I wasnt/still aint into the whole hip hop, gang banging, bling bling attitude thing, But I guess an exact opposite would be metal.....in a sense that it to has a distinctive Subculture. As far as music goes it takes talent to play any instrument and make music....but some of these metal band just end up making noise and deepthroated barking.
Through the years ive come to apreciate other genres of music, And no matter what the genre there are exeplary representatives in each whose talent cannot be denied no mater what your taste in music is.
[QUOTE="Fortier"][QUOTE="Brmarlin"]Why would anyone ever have music as an avatar/sig inspiration.....Brmarlin
Because its important to themand feel ithelps toexpress their personality, perhaps...
Should I assume that the irony/sarcasm of my post has gone unnoticed?
That it has been...my mistake!
I know how this guy feels. I have no problem with anime, but anime-freaks just PISS me off. I hate how they are obsessed with Japan and want to learn Japanese just for the sole fact that videogames came from there.
But i think that people who are obsessed with music are lame anyway. They take music way too seriously. Music is overrated.
