I'm one of twenty-three in my family, and my father has six wives, and they all live with us. When I turned 20, my father gave me my frist computer, and now I go to starbucks with it and get on the internet... eversince I've been browsing the web, I hear all sorts of slanderous negativity regarding polygamy. How, exactly, is polygamy a bad thing? I'm really looking forward to getting married several times and having several wives. Did you know that there are over 40 polygamists in the Bible? It was ok then, but why not now? Is it because of the satan-consumed media?

Because it's not popular. Monogamy is a fad like any other. Try to find a logical cause for parachute pants and you'll have your answer.

Disregarding religious aspects, it is rarely a good idea. It can work out, like in the case of your family apparntely, but generally if a man has more than one wife, jealousy will abound. If he pays attention to one wife more than the others for example.

Let's flip this. Why can the man have multiple wives while the wife must share her man? Does your society allow women to be married to multiple men?

To be honest, I don't know...

Probably the way the media is confused about sex and the like.

Polygamy should be legalized in most "1st world" countries and you would only get the benefits of wedlock with one person, this is the way I see it.

Yes, this is my opinion on the matter as well. I think feminists are largely to blame for the hatred of Polygamy in this country. Women are lower than men, it's obvious: we're stronger, smarter, and better drivers. Feminists need to be rooted out and given a stern talking to; they're all a bunch of naysayers.

I'm sorry, what?

No ape is monogamous so it is logical to think we are not adapted to be monogamous too. Of course we live in societies permeated by religious crap that make us believe that we are some kind of holy creatures and that sexuality comes from the devil.

It doesn't have to. Maybe it does favor men in the example your thinking of, but it could easily mean multiple husbands also.

Well, traditional polygamy does, as in "ye olden" days women would never propose to a man. But, I can see where you are coming from.

In most cases, a man having multiple wives tend to cause tension between the wives. Biblically, it's usually the kings in the Old Testament that have multiple wives and in that context, it's more historical than anything else. Keep in mind that polygamy is very common back then and at that time, the vast majority of society condones and allows polygamous marriages. By the New Testament, the practice have all but disappeared. Out of curiosity, can you let us know about your family background?

There are different types of polygamy. Polygyny is one man with many wives, polyandry is one wife with many men or group marriage which is many to many. There are exaples of all three in human societies. Naturally men's algorithm for reproduction in our species is to impregante the larger amount of women while the algorithm for women is to chose the best male to give the best offspring possible (noting that the best male don't necessarily means one).

He just says it doesn't happen in his society because of something in the Bible. Polygamy in general doesn't favor men, but his polygamy does.

I have a friend who, to my knowledge, wasn't religious but was ploygamous. She was a nice person. I see nothing wrong with polygamy, it's between those people and I have no right to say anything about it. I see nothing about polygamy that directly effects anyone else.

Actually, that's wrong. Polygamy is not something one does for fun, it's a religious act and treating it like a game or doing it for fun is not apperchiated by our people or our God. Your friend was a blasphemer.

In any religion, polygamy is enable but with one condition, the husband must treat equally with the wives. It's not easy to make it equally treat to them because jealousy would be happened. Ok, i had been heard some story that a muslim man from singapore have 10 wives! That issues had been sparking uproars to society due to misconception of hadith that said a man only having wives at maximum 4 wives but misconception goes to problem. Also, in my country, there was an issue of the man having married with 11-years old child, that causing uproars in society.

Um, humans are not animals. Do you read the Bible? Maybe you should start. Humans have dominion over the animal kingdom, it says so Bible. If we were animals, then that would mean, according to the Bible, that we have dominion over ourselves, and that doesn't make sense. The Bible is never wrong, which automatically disproves your point.

Actually, what you descibed could actually make sense: humans are animals and humans hold dominion over animals, therefore humans hold dominion over themselves, which means slavery is OK.

Thanks, I never thought of it that way.
