i don't really understand why, especially for women, society frowns upon or demonizes promiscuity. but then, for men it isn't seen as a bad thing?

Depends on your company. I'm sure that a priest's opinion of promiscuity would differ from a pimp's.
I have no idea. America as a whole is fairly promiscious.
People tend to sleep with people, mostly for the lulz. But, I never understood why it is frowned upon if two adults take it upon themselves to engage in such a wonderful act.
People tend to sleep with people for the lulz. Sorry but that is just so imatureIt comes from traditions I think, abstinence, chastity etc, but a lot of people probably believe it, either to conform, or "no sex before marriage" even if they don't know why/are not religious. It's a punishable crime in Islamic countries, but personally, non religious reasons why i think it's frowned upon is because STI's, apart from that - jealousy, if one brother gets some easier than another, they could be jealous: p.. Who knows.rik666
yeah, i thought it might have something to do with STIs, but if you take precautions then i don't see much of a problem. and jealousy is a good answer as well.. for example, if the condemmer isn't 'getting any', or whatever.
I frown upon it because a lot of the times, the character that builds from promiscuity is bad. There are some promiscuous people who are great, but the problem is that some people don't know when to stop. I had friends that slept around a lot; I didn't mind but I got bothered when they started messing around with genuinely nice people. If you sleep around with girls that know its a 1 time thing, I have no problem with it, but once you start playing with other people's emotions, I have a big problem with that. That's the first reason I generally frown down upon it.
There are some people who meet with casual sex partners who know the deal from the get go, and that's great for them, but another reason that it's generally frowned upon is that our societies are built around the institution of marriage and family. And no one wants to be with a partner who feels the urge to sleep with any and everything, so naturally it becomes a character flaw to be so promiscuous.
Better still, how about you explain to us what's so immoral about it?The fact that you even asked that question says a lot about the moral decay of our society. You should talk to your parents.

Decency is relative. And how is self respect (or lack of) related to it? And loyalty? We are talking promiscuity, not adultery/cheating.It shows lack of decency, self respect and loyalty.

It's not my job to explain basic life experiences, social behaviour, right from wrong and personal decisions and attitudes. That should come from responsible parents.
By the time you are teens you should know what is morally right and wrong not make flippant comments to appear cool.
It's frowned upon for both sexes. Pirate700I disagree. Men tend to get hi5's from their mates for sleeping around and women get called whores o_O

what i don't like is seeing women/girls who think they have to conform to the whole 'good little virgin' image. so then that woman might base all future thoughts and decisions on this idea of a an 'exclusive virgin-like image', but not know why.
i don't often see men get the stimga, but judging from some responses on this thread, it does happen.

 There are far more convincing ways of dealing with an argument than branding it 'flippant' and sticking your fingers in your ears, you know.I frown upon it because a lot of the times, the character that builds from promiscuity is bad. That pretty much sums up my feelings towards it...regardless of gender, especially the highlighted parts. My only other notation is that it is often a result of charactor flaws not so much as it becomes one...but I understand it becomes one to the significant other at that point.

It seems you just can't explain it, not because "it's not your job".

People shouldn't make claims here in the OT and not be brave enough to back them up.

Me and my mates have discussed it once or twice - we think it's weird how Americans see being a virgin as fab whereas over here you get the piss taken out of you. I kind of lost mine at 15 on a technicality and it ended up going round school. Suddenly I was in this 'cool' group of girls and people started asking me advice on sex and stuff. I had no idea, I still hadn't had sex yet and it was weird :?i don't often see men get the stimga, but judging from some responses on this thread, it does happen.just_nonplussed

Again, it depends on the company that you keep. Like, in my neighborhood people think it's okay to sell crack.

Fortunatly I know the adolescent mind set here and realize it is usless to have a conversation , so I refered the OP to his parents rather than he get a bunch of crap from a game forum. Rather than have me explain how we've become immoral why arn't you asking the OP how he cannot understand what's wrong with being promiscuious?
Let's get real here. Promiscuity isn't some jerk trying to get laid all the time by his female acquaintances, or a woman getting plastered and "accidentally" sleeping with a man she just met or hitting on her girlfriend's male siblings. Promiscuity is a male/female who haphazardly finds someone sexually attractive and sleeps with said person. A promiscuous person carries a box of condoms and thinks they're pretty much set for the night. Have you had a conversation with a promiscuous woman? It can be frightening. She has her hand on your leg from "Hey", brags about how big her breast are, everything is innuendo, and if you don't submit, they're pretty damn disappointed in you and move on to the next guy.i don't really understand why, especially for women, society frowns upon or demonizes promiscuity. but then, for men it isn't seen as a bad thing?

i'm from the UK as well, and i didn't know it was overly cool! but yeah i guess in school it is - people think you're more mature or something.
i guess the UK is a more secular country to an extent.
