A billion reasons.

  • always turns into a dictatorship
  • secret police
  • you can't insult the government
  • favors hand labor instead of knowledge
  • creates aggression to fullfill the stupid Karl Marx prediction
  • everyone is poor
  • lacks competition because the money is distributed equally. (restraunts for example). So this means if you work at a restraunt, you'll get paid as much as everyone else so there's no reason in your head to try harder at your job. (bad food, bad service, etc.)

Err no. Not bad food/bad service. I had the best fried chicken EVER in Cuba. So good! Man, that could be reason alone to go back and find that restaurant again.

It's also based on dated perceptions of society, so it was a crappy way of running a country from the start. Karl Marx went to England during the industrial revolution and saw that the workers were treated crappily while the wealthy business owners don't have to do any of that crap, so Marx saw that workers should be favored because they "do all the work", while they're controlled by people who don't physically work. Marx thought that the workers would eventually rule the world in a global revolution some day.

There's one HUGE problem: the life of the worker has improved greatly since then.

So Marx's just got a misconception from his stay in England and wrote the Communist Manifesto solely based on that. The whole idea was just for nationalism among all workers anyway...

Well I don't know if I was completely right there. Maybe a few exceptions. Anyway I was watching something on PBS a while ago and they taped a restoraunt in Russian in 1986. It was hilarious how much of slackers everyone looked. There were employees jumping around, laughing, and horsing around while bringing stuff to the guests...all because they'll get paid evenly no matter what. It was kind of funny to watch.

My opinion is it's hard to establish. You need to have an extremely rich and small country. Plus, communism takes the motivation out of people. Why get up and work in the morning if you know you can't better yourself?

because it encourages lazyness. it doesn't matter how hard you work. you will make the same amout of money. so why work hard? this is why communist countries always have bad productivety rates.

it's very oppressive and gives the government way too much power. you say anything slightly against what they do and you're history. they'll take you and toss you in a cell.

the health care systems never are good either. it takes you like a week to go see a doctor even if all you have is a headache.

East Germany was really bad. they read your mail, had teachers tell their students to turn their parents in if they were talking about the government behind its back and tried to make them believe they were doing the right thing if they did, russian soldiers could pick on you because you or someone in your family was a former axis member and you couldn't do anything about it, and they kept changing the color of the money. for example if the current bank notes were green, and they change it to red, then all the green money you had saved up was useless and you couldn't exchange it. yeah it was really bad.

i was talking to my friend fron Ukraine recently. he said that when the USSR fell, they built a mcdonalds and there was a 3 hour line to get in. i guess when you've lived off rations your whole life anything is a warm welcome.

It is terrible!

But I want to know what people from other countries think.

I know its bad, but i want to know why other people understand it doesn't work, and why it will never be good for a country as a greater par.

Holy crap, that's terrible. What if you had a lifesavings sitting in your basement built up to 20, 000 dollars and you just needed one more to get this new car. All of the sudden the color changes and it's history! :?

Ask yourself, why don't rich people get richer....

Why don't rich people get richer?

Because all the money goes to the government, then gets spent on various things such as health care and military equipment. Very little of this money stays in anyones hands.

no...It's because there are no rich people. Everyone earns around the same amount....Can't you see how unfair this is?

Not to mention how limited your personal freedom is.

To be honest I don't actually like communism. However think it is the lesser of god knows how many evil economic systems. I personnally believe that we should simply abolish money all together and let the government run the entire economy alone.

lols, totalatarinism?

The government doesn't have to work like that. I was simply refering to how the economy was run. The government could still be Democratic or any other system of government(that I know of).

The last thing the government needs in MORE control. Ever heard of that country called the USSR? Didnt work too well for them...

I disagree. If it were not for the USSR the Nazis proboly would have conquered the world. And don't forget, they beat the U.S. to the moon. Despite this, their economic is not the same as the one I believe is the best economic system. You have to remember the rich and powerful control everything regardless of what type of country you are in.

Socialism/Communism is a GOOD think (Yes, you read that right).

I'm guessing the majority of people here are American, right? You seem to have an irrational hate or fear of Communism. In part this is down to the cold war but mostly because of the type of society you live in.

America is capitalist, and capitalism enourages individualism, greed and exploitaion. In fact, by definition in order for Capitalism to work, people HAVE to be exploited. Without exploitation there would be no profit.

Capitalists are like leeches feeding off the poor and needy, just so they can fill there pockets with cash. So if anything Capitalists are far worth than Communists.

Socialism encourages people to co-operate and work together as a team to achieve a common goal. In a TRUE Communist society there would be no need for a government because people would be able to work together and govern themselves. So places like the USSR or China aren't really communist. In fact Karl Marx said that Communism must be International in order to function correctly. So by his definition the world has never seen true Communism.

Think of a scale (balance). In communism, it aims to keep the two sides equal. But in capitalism, for one side to go higher (get richer), the other side has to go down (get poorer). Look at third world countries. The US exploits the workers for cheaper labor, so the prices can come down, and they can get more business.

Of course Capitalism encourages exploitation...

How do you think you buy things so cheaply? Why do you think clothes are mass produced in Chinese sweat shops.?

The corporations employ people in foreign countries to make their goods. But they can get away with paying there employees very little in wages. This gives them the biggest ammount of profit possible.

GettingTired

How does capitalism encourage exploitation? How dos profit require explotation? The capitalists are leaches? How?

Think of a scale (balance). In communism, it aims to keep the two sides equal. But in capitalism, for one side to go higher (get richer), the other side has to go down (get poorer). Look at third world countries. The US exploits the workers for cheaper labor, so the prices can come down, and they can get more business.

Thats a load of trash. If I grow an apple tree for myself I get richer (by way of apples). Nobody gets poorer

Socialism/Communism is a GOOD think (Yes, you read that right).

I'm guessing the majority of people here are American, right? You seem to have an irrational hate or fear of Communism. In part this is down to the cold war but mostly because of the type of society you live in.

Only because of the way society brings people up. Especially in America it seems people are taught that Communism is the work of the Devil.

Maybe one day we could actually better ourselves instead of being so God damn greedy all the time.

We are hardly taught anything about communism really, other than its pahiled epically in the past, which is true. I do not, nor will i ever live in a soceity such as a communistic one. It hasnt worked, and it wont work...

Can I have the next winning lottery numbers please?

Why is that so?

As the World is people are restricted in movement and trade by borders between different countries.

What Marx was trying to say is that we should do away with this. We shouldn't think about being from different nations because we are all "citizens of the world".

If we can all think as one nation and co-operate for once, then in theory international communism could work.

Because not all nations have the resources required to survive by themselves. Take a look at the USSR, they tried to make Communism work in one country and look at the mess that turned out to be.

Take a nation like Japan. It has virtually no natural resources of its own. If they tried to do Communism by themselves they would be pretty screwed.

So the comunism can trade with other countries. They can buy as a whole. Plus Russia had plenty of resouces. Fertile and ample land, many raw materials (coal and a huge amount of natural gas)

Whoever buys your apples gets poorer:roll:

They get an apple in return. I assume they value the apple more than the money, so they are getting richer not poorer

Yes, but once they eat the apple they will be poorer. Then once they are hungry again they will have to buy more of your apples.

So you would rather they didn't buy the apple and had nothing? I've provided these people with a means to live (for which they pay me), how have I made them poorer.

They are getting poorer because they HAVE TO PAY for your apples. If they DIDN'T HAVE TO PAY they would be richer.

They don't have to pay for my apples. They choose to.

But why can communism not work in one nation?

Because not all nations have the resources required to survive by themselves. Take a look at the USSR, they tried to make Communism work in one country and look at the mess that turned out to be.

Take a nation like Japan. It has virtually no natural resources of its own. If they tried to do Communism by themselves they would be pretty screwed.

So the comunism can trade with other countries. They can buy as a whole. Plus Russia had plenty of resouces. Fertile and ample land, many raw materials (coal and a huge amount of natural gas)

If communism was international we could just trade things as and when people needed them.

However, if you still have the restrictions of individual countries trade is made more complicated. If Japan is trading with Ecuador, sure Ecuador can give Japan loads of bananas but then Japan has no natural resources to give back the Ecuador.

So im suppose to do all the hard work for growing and selling the apples, and get nothing in return?

BRILLIANT, just brilliant....

Yes, but see, if I grow an apple tree and you grow a peach tree, we can trade and have two different kinds of fruits.
