my god what a travesty, it really was a terrible film. while the special effects were impressive, it could not hide the films faults. Episode 3 has been praised as a star wars fans dream, it really is nothing but a cheesy action movie with pretty effects. The story was mediocre ( a usual of star wars films) the acting was terrible, anakin was such a whiny little brat. He goes to the dark side for no good reason, he tries to choke padme ( again no real reason) and becomes a sith because of his whiny problems. I did like some of the fight scenes, but after a while the effects became dull, pretty much everything was a pretty special effect. It became so monotonous that by the time it ended, the effects literally didnt look as good. and the less said about the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! part the better.

overall I give episode 3 a..... 2 out of 10.

Thats a kind score...... if Anakin was replaced by a crushed beetle, the acting would have been more convincing

I don't think it was terrible, but that is probably just because it is a Star Wars film. But yeah, it was kind of a disappointment. Not as much as the first(episode one) Star Wars.

It's still better than Episodes I & II, which isn't saying much considering how bad they were.

am I the only one who thinks star wars in a way ruined a lot what made sci fi great? ever since star wars came out, sci fi has become simplified, they use effects over actual story. The original star wars films paved the way for directors to just dazzle people with effects so they wouldnt have to bother with a good story,  to me, one of the greatest sci fi films ever made is BLADE RUNNER, because it mixes smart sci fi, with great action and effects.

It was only portraying serials of the past, the old Star Wars at least. So the plot, like serials is simplified. When the hell will people freaking learn this.

I haven't seen the third one, but after sitting through the first two, I don't think I can ever bring myself to watch it.  I know there are some people who say that it made up for the first 2, but for me, 2 bad films + 1 okay film = a trilogy that wasted my time.  Oh, well.

I just dont understand how star wars is so popular, it has average at best plots, mediocre acting, it is a over glorified action movie with pretty effects. there are much better sci fi movies out there imo like silent running, blade runner, soylent green, 12 monkeys etc.

Why was it good? Because it was better than the first two.

I'm going to stick to the original trilogy, Lucas has lost it.

You have to be insane to think Blade Runner would've been made without Star Wars.

*cough*serials*cough*

and all those other SciFi films you listed are great, but you forgot 2001: A Space Odyssey... and you weren't born in the 70's to see how it truly affected cinema, I wasn't either, but I learned a great deal from my father, and my brother-in-law.

Kids have terrible taste and this is illustrated by how well the 'first' (really, the last) episodes were able to sell at all. The first movies were geniunely brilliant, and this mostly had to do with George Lucas ripping off every mythology he could find. The cinematography in the originals is far better as well.

Indeed, what made Star Wars great was its straightforwardness. It took so many unrelated genres, like Greek mythology and WWII films, and brought them together and made pure-entertainment into something that approached high art. Yes, their was a lot of razzle dazzle, but it could've had lesser special effects and still worked.

THE ORIGINAL FILMS ARE THE AWESOME ONES

Hell they even blow the Lord Of The Rings trilogy out of the water. In the words of Kevin Smith "there will only ever be one trilogy"

Nah, Lord of the Rings was an evolution of what Star Wars accomplished. I don't consider it superior, per se, but it was definitely a more developed piece of filmmaking.

Not watching the first one made makes you fail at judging the films. Episode III should be viewed after IV, V, VI, I and II.

They were very annal about all of its production. That doesn't make it better cinema or more entertaining. The original Star Wars are far better because they know when to stop with this lore and how to make this lore pertinent to a real audience. LOTR could do none of this.

Star Wars is popular because of the impact it had on the film industry, special effects wise. It also gives slight hope to certain independent film makers.

It's fanbase grew as the intriguing story and breathtaking special effects captured the interest of audiences all of the planet, and, as the newer films were released, diehard fans of the series flocked to it.

I'd say the greatest accomplishment from Star Wars was the fact that the universe was unique in every way, spanning across many worlds and many stories. Contless books, graphic novels, short films, and video games have been aid to the fact that the universe of Star Wars is nearly infinate.

Considering all of the former, that's a success. Making such a thing is hard to do.

Star Wars 3 was probably the worst film I've ever seen in the cinema ( runs close with Meet The Fockers ) , but the first movie was brilliant.

Lucas is a lousy director though.

The series is very public friendly, but still has an admirable story that follows the basic rules of "a heroes journey."

That's why I liked it so much (apart from me growing up with it). The story does drag on, especially over six films, but they offer a lot of different elements that make them so..... unique.

The actors themselves (Ford, Fisher) thought it was going to be nothing more than a kids movie. Well, it was, but probably the most successful kids movie of all time.
