[QUOTE="foxhound_fox"][QUOTE="Film-Guy"]I have seen every star wars movie in order before, I just dont like any of them because I think they are over done action westerns with a sci fi twist. Chloroformality

The you must obviously have different tastes in movies. They are some of the highest grossing movies in history.

why would I care how much money it makes or how popular it is:|

The series is very public friendly, but still has an admirable story that follows the basic rules of "a heroes journey."

That's why I liked it so much (apart from me growing up with it). The story does drag on, especially over six films, but they offer a lot of different elements that make them so..... unique.

The actors themselves (Ford, Fisher) thought it was going to be nothing more than a kids movie. Well, it was, but probably the most successful kids movie of all time.

I honestlly dont care about how popular star wars is. It is only unique in how it manages to be milked more than any other franchise. its simple appeal and popularity was in a way what caused many sci fi films after it and now to sacrifice food story and characters, in favor of special effects.

I myself never liked the series, at all. I remember getting so bored with the original movie that I just stopped watching. I checked some of the later ones out and was still baffled as to why the series is popular.

Really, the movies are nothing special. On top of that, Lucas is a crappy director who only got fame from the Star Wars movies and being Spielberg's *****.

But the main reason was Star Wars has been so "milked" is because its infinate ability to be "milked." No other fictional universe has shown such expansion as the Star Wars universe. Everything has meaning and explanation, down to the smallest detail. That's why I admire it so much.

And the characters in the story (Episodes 4-6) are as basic as they come, but that's what made it great. They were easily relatable to the audience and, in turn, hooked them on a quick level.

.... and, for the record, it's simple appeal and popularity is what caused many sci-fi films after it to be made, period.

Ridley Scott, himself, said Alien wouldn't be around were it not for Star Wars. James Cameron said he would have also never quit his job as a truck driver to do films.

So, in turn, Terminator and The Abyss would be non-existent.

THE ORIGINAL FILMS ARE THE AWESOME ONES

Hell they even blow the Lord Of The Rings trilogy out of the water. In the words of Kevin Smith "there will only ever be one trilogy"

Nah, Lord of the Rings was an evolution of what Star Wars accomplished. I don't consider it superior, per se, but it was definitely a more developed piece of filmmaking.

Lord of the rings bored the hell out of me, way to long movies with zero plot, oh well sorry, there was a plot destroy that bad little ring and use movies of 3 hours each to accomplish that, plus i didnt feel anything at all for the characters.

Star Wars is awesome though, i actually like all 6 movies, some better then others of course, and yes there is some chessy acting in the new ones, but what do you expect when you remove everything around the actors and only have a blue or green screen. But in my opinion Episode 1 is a much better movie then episode 2, episode 2 sucked, they used way to much cgi that wasnt ready yet in that movie, episode 1 still has an okay mix of real sets and cgi, plus jar jar didnt annoy me. Episode 3 was the best one, mostly because it was very emotional when you grew up with the old movies, and the acting was better in the third one, but episode 3 felt a little rushed when the darkside took over and anakin becoming evil, those things could have been more fleshed out if they focused more on stuff like that in the other 2.

Plus its really a matter of taste, but i love that universe the star wars movies take place in and the new movies really make it come to life, really cant take that lord of the rings, warcraft midgets on horses world, just to boring, but as i said a matter of taste :)
