Why so much anti-American sentiment on OT?

I'm not normally phased by anti-American sentiment, but it seems really frequent on OT, and it's actually a little annoying. Is it just some trollololololing or what?

America has flaws and since many Americans have their stupid "gung ho 'Mruica **** yeah" attitude, people instantly feel better if they start hating. Me, I'm pretty damn indifferent towards America as a whole, and I'd be willing to bet that many of the problems in the US aren't exclusive to it.

On OT? Make that on the entire internet.

It's funny though, that in my experience as an American I've found that the younger generation doesn't really have much of that national pride. In fact, you find just as many people within my generation (or at least I have) who hate the USA as much as or more than its greatest external detractors.

You don't have to bet, it's a known fact.

I am not anti-American I am anti-American goverment, some of the things they do is frankly disgusting.

I like America, I just don't like some of the policies the country has.

On OT? I think anti-American sentiments are going rampant around the world, for obvious reasons of course.

Our country is a damage control for the worst crisis ever.

Anti American sentiments? Don't know about that, most of the time, people simply acknowlage the flaws of the USA, and poke back atthe US when statements about other countries also applies to the US.

Apart from that I tend to think most people are fairly neutral of the US.

Of legit complaints and reasons for peoples negative views could be:

The US is THE country in the World that chases freedom and equality in the World (atleast that is what is stated). but internally it seem less free and equal then most other developed countries. Which can make people roll thier eyes.

The two wars the US engaged did not exactly garner alot of love towards the US, they were not alone in it by far, my country was one of the first to stand NeXT to the US, but given that the US were the biggest nation to go to war, they caught most of the flak. This could make some people feel like the US tends to put thier noses where it did not belong, and garner some negative views of the US.

Most importantly, alot of US Citizens did not seem to notice how George Bush Jr. And his staff, pretty much utterly soured all forign relations. This is likely the biggest factor for what might be considered anti US sentiment, The Bush administration, pretty much destroyied alot of relations which have not been rebuilt yet, and likely wont for a long long time. And while I am sorry to state this, a nations leaders represent said nation or Country.

Internally the US have gone through some unrest due to the recent stockmarket crash. Which makes alot of the population question the goverment, or rather the corperations that the goverment does not seem to keep a Watch on, but in this aspect it was not just the US, but most countries in the World, where the Citizens became more critical of thier goverments, and how they could allow such a thing to happen.

These are likely some fairly valid reasons why there is some anti American sentiments around the net. But here on GS? The US is not seen is a negative eye by most, it is seen no better or worse then other nations or countries, which is normal since it is an international forum. So different viewpoints are normal.

I'm part of Generation Y (Millennial) and don't have much national pride myself. I'm more or less indifferent about the country. However, I'll take living in the US over living in most other parts of the world, for sure.

That's fine if there is anti-US sentiment here. At least I'm not afraid to take it. There are some here who are quick to throw the mud around. Yet, they're afraid to even mention what country they're from...probably because their countries are hiding skeletons of their own in the closet.

I quite like America, have American friends and consume the crap out of American movies/shows/etc.

That being said, there are a few sorts of American who annoy me and sometimes it's hard to remember not everybody is like that because the idiots are always the most vocal crowd.

Overly proud/patriotic people. It's nice to be happy with your nationality but in my opinion manly tears upon spotting a bald eagle or going apeshit because a US flag is touching the ground is a bit ridiculous. Also, not everything needs to be red, white and blue.

People who say "This is America!" as an answer to everything. What the **** does that mean? Do they think others don't know that? If I replied with "This is the Netherlands!" people around here would think the retarded kid finally had an epiphany...

Probably related to the previous one. The "freedom of speech" crowd; especially the ones who seem to think that nobody can speak their minds anywhere else in the world.

Again, related to the previous one, people who think "freedom of speech" is a green light to be assholes.

People who think guns are the answer to everything.

growing up .... Disney and Flintstone is why I love america ..... until one day ... at Narita airport, one day transit before heading to Amurika next day .... a middle age american lady who think the world is hers.... treating a female japanese concierge like slave. Her behaviour was obnoxious that I want to punch her on behalf of the japanese girl .... but I just can't. It's like watching helplessly a little girl eaten alive by a fat red white and blue grizzly bear.

It's pretty common everywhere. Most people that are anti-american on OT are idiots(Osiris, hippiesanta, kuraimen, grayfox, alim, etc) so its easy to disregard their opinions.

Any American who hates the U.S, just swap countries with me.

Uruguay teaches their children Calculus in the 6th grade. Students in the US slog through Alegbra in their junior year of high school.

All countries have a lot of problems. What does it matter to you if you don't live there? Algebra is not in junior year...it's quite a bit earlier.

If not sarcastic, Uruguay is the most progressive country in the world.

It was the first country to legalize marijuana fully, legalized gay marriage. There's universal health care there. Shootings, crime, grafittis, trash/littering, crippling buildings are not nearly as common in it's poorest areas. It's own president, Jose Mujica, has taken a stance against consumerism. As he says "the poor person is the person who has much and still wants more".

Human trafficking is a big problem in Uruguay....

I see a lot of love for America here. And concerns. Some of that concern is seeing as being anti America.

I don't see nothing wrong with america, as long as they realize they're not the only country in the world, and that their values not always apply on foreign cultures.

They're always in the news. Your government has to be the most vocal government on the planet, but the message is always the same. America is great and this and that country is a threat...

It's a relative issue. Some will say it's anti-American if you don't subscribe to the notion America is #1 at everything and everyone else is a scummy communist psychopath.

A lot of the stupid and terrible stuff the United States does other countries do as well. However, being pretty much the only super power left in the world everything is magnified 100x. You also have to consider that the Untied States government tries to act like the saviors of the world, which makes them doing bad stuff even worse and more noteworthy.

It also seems like a growing trend that people here in the U.S. claim to hate the U.S. It's the cool thing to do now.

to tie this into the main reason for anti america viewpoints Uruguay are recently out of the jungle to the point they are aware of a pre agriculture society and how it was vastly superior to any "advanced" system mainly in an area we enjoy here leisure unfortunately ideas cannot be destroyed so agriculture is a thing there need to be a debate on the nature of consumerism also something quite ugly i have recently connected to death squared which also our favourite hobby is blinding us to

I like America the land and what it was founded on. I do not care one bit for the people running it, the tactics they use, the companies who get to waive money around to buy laws, the blind patriotism people have, and mostly the utter complacency the populace has in regards to damn near everything (i.e. nobody cares at all about anything until it bites their own ass, then they care and act surprised).

I have noticed it. I chalk most of it up to teenagers trying to be cool (after all the US is like the popular jock in school).

Yes there are plenty of legitimate issues with the country, but the stuff that is said and the way it is said the vast majority of the time here is not even close to constructive criticism, and quite frankly I see quite a bit of flat out ignorance and arrogance at times here...

Still love this idea people have that people in the US just totally love the government and are super happy with how things are going and we all just drive around in our Ford pick-up trucks with the flags and eagles on it.

I can assure outsiders, for every person like there there are at least 30 other people who are NOT like that at all....

@LostProphetFLCL: I see several big jacked up pickup trucks that drive around with HUGE us flags in bed on a flag pole. I mean it's not many but they stand out.

It's kind if funny how hmmm 13 years ago everyone and their mother had flags on bumper stickers they sold car mirror flags window flags. The flag was everywhere. They had shows on tv making fun of bush then all the sudden they disappeared for a few years.

Now it's like the trend is over and it's reverse. It's kinda sad how being patriotic is now just like any trend it comes and goes. I am not saying you have to like or agree with the people in office but they are what was elected and not the almighty self appointed leaders. If people are truly unhappy we have the power to change it.

A majority must of liked bush enough for 2 terms, Obama for 2 terms many congressmen/women lifetimes in office.
