[QUOTE="sonicare"]

Those attacks could be by anyone. There are many people in the US who strongly support their government and may take it upon themselves to do this. Assuming that it is Barrack Obama ordering wikileaks to be taken down is a little bit of a stretch.

markinthedark

i would also like to think the US government is capable of something more sophisticated than a simple DDOS attack. Thats the kind of stuff 4 chan script kiddies use.

the US is not... i dare say

[QUOTE="MathMattS"]

[QUOTE="testfactor888"] I am for freedom of speech no matter the cost.II_Seraphim_II

Does that cost include human lives and national security?

As far as I'm concerned, if you're an American citizen and you support something like this that threatens national security, you're a traitor.

Its the same reason the US doesnt negotiate with terrorists. Lets say the US began negotiating with terrorists, pretty soon every terrorist will know they can get watever they want. In this case, lets say this form of censorship is "ok" because its protecting the lives of people...Ok...NY times reporter is reporting on corruption of the president, but maybe we should censor that, as not to fracture the US unity...its all for the sake of national security. Oh ok, now lets get rid of that other party, because well, their ideas are dangerous to national security. Pretty soon you would have an excuse to censor pretty much any and everything you dont like. I'm sure when Nazi Germany started, it all started with small steps, not just one large sweeping motion.

Wow. Quite the stretch of imagination there. Well then, shall we make every single information available to everybody. Because if we don't we'll become Nazi Germany.

Good, harming relations with countries for what? To be some kind of star boy or crusader? I hope he gets locked away and they throw away the key.

Hopefully they find even more dirt on the superpowers around the world.Governments should be held accountable for wrongdoings and the citizens deserve the right to know.

So people are upset that the ***** things they have done have gotten leaked. How about you don't ****ing do them instead of getting mad at the people who are merely exposing what countries have already done. It's like talking trash behind a friends back and then getting mad at the person who told them about it.

I'm so glad the goverment is fighting against the forces of the internet, instead of, you know, helping it's fellow citizens. Oh wait, that's not how America works anymore. It's all about money now, and trying to keep their dirty secrets away from Americans.

No good will come from wikileaks, onoly to please people who are way to curious and are oblivious the what these documents can harm.

Oh well, free speech. Cant wait for them to leak out tactics in Afghanistan, but of course, everyone here will defend those leaks while taliban will know all the moves of our troops.

You fail to understand the point here. The release of this information was illegal. Whomever stole this information in the first place, should get arrested and all that jazz since this is classified information and the guy is guilty of espionage and/or treason. On the other hand, the publication of this information is NOT illegal, and that's all Wikileaks did. You see, the government agent who leaked this info, probably signed some contract stating that he is not allowed to release sensitive data. It's like when NY times gets, in the mail, bank statements showing a politician is corrupt. How those bank records were obtained was probably illegally, but the NY times has every right to publish them.

Its the US government job to keep its info secret, not Wikileaks'.

Really. Let's take that logic and use it in everday life. Let's say someone gave me your ss number. The way they got that was illegal, but is it legal for me to post your ss number on facebook or on the internet for everyone to see. If it's not, then why the double standards.

That is not the impression I've gotten at all from the people actually involved. As for the general public, I can say that I'm sure there are some people who fit your description, but there are also just as many who don't.

What you consider a dream I do not. I'm not asking for 100 percent accountability on every action the government has taken, however I do believe transparency is important. I guess that's the difference between you and me, I'm not a pessimist who thinks the government can do whatever the **** it wants with out any chance of being held accountable. Nice chat, off to dinner.

Can someone please give a proper reply to why wikileaks is justified.

Can someone please show me the PROPER benefits of these leaks, that do not include feedings people curiousity, or armchair politicians saying how it will help?

Can someone please say how preventing the leak of this is bad. Without including that it hinders free speach, which has its limits.

Too bad for them. If they have dirty secrets they deserve the hate they should recieve.

Grats, it's not only them getting hate it's the citizens of their country who have nothing to do with it.

True, but that's only because the world is full of idiots. As of now, I say just shut the website down.

Yes, accountability is apparently only something possible in a dream world. Makes perfect sense. We need whistle blowers, they expose stupid **** that people have done to **** over people across the globe. If they were so concerned over relations with countries, how about not talking **** behind their backs or trying to screw them over. Just a thought from my fantasy world again I guess. HoolaHoopMan

Yes it is, in the world of politics asking for accountability for foreign affairs is dream world mentality, especially in the larger more influential nations.

When it comes to foreign affairs the government should not have to disclose anything that can affect them negatively. Accountability for foreign affairs is a dream, however I believe the government should be extremely transparent when it comes to domestic matters.

I wish Obama would take a stand against this disgrace of action. It is not under the first amendment also for those of you saying it would be there are many exceptions in America where free speech is not true

[QUOTE="l4dak47"]Wow. Quite the stretch of imagination there. Well then, shall we make every single information available to everybody. Because if we don't we'll become Nazi Germany. :roll:l4dak47

Why would it be illegal to post my SS number on facebook? Its not nice, but there is no law banning it (to the best of my knowledge, but im no lawyer). Facebook may take it down because its against their personal TOS, but the US legal system wouldnt do anything to you. Now, if you used my SS number for nefarious purposes, then that would be illegal, but just posting my SS number when you had absolutely no hand in how it was attained is not illegal. So yeah, while morally reprehensible, its legal for you to post my SS number (if I had one :P )

Seems like people want it to be leaked for the sake of it harming the government, rather then reading it.

Like a personal vendetta, against something they know little about.

SAGE_OF_FIRE
Nope.

How. no good will come out of it, the release of this wont help anyone. It wont change the haters image of how the government works. It will cause damage to public, national, and other relations. endagers peoples lives, and economy, and public image. The only ones who will be happy about this are the people who want to see it leaked for the sake of leaking it, a small minority which nobody gives a rats ass about, oh and enemies of the state.

Wikileaks has some major dirt on America. Advanced energy generation...secret space...assassinations of foreign government personnel...CFR...asteroid impacts...you name it, but it will be something big, and something that they cannot wriggle out of with a few platitudes and apologies. There is a reason why this info is getting leaked out with Americas permission.
