http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/dec/07/wikileaks-gaddafi-britain-lockerbie-bomber

Remember this guy? The guy responsible for this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan_Am_Flight_103

He was released because Lybia threatened the UK and the United Kindom cowered like little girls and did exactly as Lybia told them. Really pathetic. Out of anything in wikileaks, this pissed me off the most.

Maybe it is time to send bombers back to Libya and complete the original mission.

topic title is misleading. He was released after spending decades in prison because he was terminally ill, he is suspected to be dead within the next couple of days.

Yes, that doesnt change what I said though, whether or not he was released due to foreign pressure, there are other details in this situation that need to be adressed.

Its not like they just released a terrorist into public. The guy has terminal cancer, he was released on the expectation that he would be dead within the year.

dude.. i cannot tell you how many times when i've gone into debates/discussions on the Middle East and someone quotes me Qaddafi. nobody in my neck of the Middle East takes him seriously, not the governments, not the people, not the media. He is Daffy Duck of the Middle East. so... why is the United Kingdom cow to the Libyan government?

I can't use the U.S for comparing? Why not? That's what everybody does. Compare the U.S to other countries in other threads. At least, I didn't compare the U.K to Nazi Germany.

I for one would wish this news would finally get the Arab governments to just be more forthright and actually get a move on making social changes.

If wikileaks feels so obligated to steal and expose government documents, perhaps they should focus not so much on first world countries, which release a lot more information than anyone gives them credit for, but more on much more authoritative regimes that are extremely opaque in how they function.

Only to the extent of the perspective of U.S. foreign policy and internal operations, which are already pretty clear as they are. I haven't seen anything yet that is particularly new or shocking in these documents.

Revealed what exactly? Everyone speculated that was the reason for release in the first place.. this was a very very public affair, there's nothing special about this information.

The US is one of the nations that holds the largest economical power in the world aswell as have several times been quite active abroad, so the fact that the US is seemingly what mainly is reveal documents about is mostly because the US essentially got a finger into everything nowadays.

It surely shouldn't come as such a surprise.

topic title is misleading. He was released after spending decades in prison because he was terminally ill, he is suspected to be dead within the next couple of days.

Did you read the leaked cables?

Yes, that doesnt change what I said though, whether or not he was released due to foreign pressure, there are other details in this situation that need to be adressed.

Its not like they just released a terrorist into public. The guy has terminal cancer, he was released on the expectation that he would be dead within the year.

Sure, he has terminal cancer, but why should that be a reason to release him from prison? Tons of criminals die in prison. It's not like he was wrongfully imprisoned.

I was indifferent at the time, but after finishing John Adams the HBO Special i support the leaks. Everyone pushes Adams for the Alien and Sedition acts just in case they go to war with France and he has trouble with it, then Jefferson tells him it's hypocritical after they fought so hard for those freedoms. I love how everyone assumes every guy in custody is a "terrorist", reminds me of the beginning episodes where John himself defends the British troops who supposedly "started" the Boston Massacre but he gets them off the hook because they were actually being attacked by a mob and people tried to spin it, they even called Adams a traitor for defending those Red coats. They needed a trial, they needed representation, not to just be locked up as so called "terrorists" in this day and age.
