That is a fairly difficult question to answer and I suppose it can be answered in many different ways. When the last human perishes, that to us will essentially be the End of Time. I mean to say that even if we knew some giant asteroid big enough to destroy the Earth was about to hit, then to us that would be considered the End of Time because essentially that is the End of life as we know it, even though microorganisms would continue to live and evolve in other planets.

Worm holes would require a radically large amount of energy.. More so then it would to take to light speed.. You know how much it would take something like a bowlign ball to get to the speed of light? It would take all the energy produces in a week to accelerate something that size near the speed of light.

sSubZerOo

I don't know the energy requirements for a wormhole, but from my quick researching of the speed of light it would take an infinite amount of energy to keep something moving towards the speed of light. Wouldn't the energy for a worm hole to exist be a stable/solid number as opposed to the endless amount of energy required in moving an object to the speed of light? I think a worm hole lies in our future as opposed to trying to travel near the speed of light.

The only thing your refering to of the energy needed is the fact you can never reach the speed of light.. Hence why it would be infinite but anything near it say 98% can be reached with a finite amount of energy..

How would that be? Wouldn't the energy required to hit 98% the speed of light increase in order to maintain that 98%?

If there was a force acting against it.. Yes.. But space by and large is a void things like gravity and friction hardly ever be a concern going between stars..

No, unless people start working togehter, hand in hand, and that will never happen, unless someone just kills off all the baddies.

No. We'll be biting the dust sooner or later.

Think about it. In 2,000 years man kind has very nearly obliterated each other on three occasions. That is only 2,000 years, amidst all of the other fighting that endures.

The premise of this thread holds we live until the end of time. That time would exceed 100,000 years. It would be a miracle if we have not destroyed ourselves, or our planet, by then.

A species can be expected to live as long as millions of years. I doubt man will reach that time.

Gotcha! Didn't know. Well theoretically which one would require more energy? And regardless even if a worm hole required more energy it would still make more sense to pursue that rout since it offers a much bigger advantage over light speed space travel.

I will because I know the way I worded my question may be a bit unclear. By "living" I mean the very last humans ever. Do you think we will perish on earth when squids come on land? :P Will we wipe ourselves out? Will a select few get on a space ship (which by then may be highly advanced) and travel aimlessly (or maybe even with a destination) through space? And by "end of time" I mean, will humans be around in the universe for a loooong time. Like a million years from now will humans still exist? (not the end of time I know :P)

If we survive the next 150 years or so I think that is a big threshold where we stand the highest chance of self destruction. If we survive for 200 more years without blowing us back to the stone age then we should be good for a long time. Will be an interesting time of advancement. Just my prediction. I think we are currently at the point where a civilization has one of the highest chances of self destruction. If we get passed it though it should be smooth sailing. Until we make a galactic empire that crumbles upon its own over population and terrible government. Then mathematicians must invent psychohistory!

I also don't think we will advanced into space faring species for a long time if at all. Our niche will be nanotechnology and molecular nanotech. Once you can basically make anything, who needs to travel? We will just create and terraform our own planets.

Yes. If Humans aren't around to experience it, does it still exist? Therefore once the last human is gone, time is no more and it would be the end of time.

Only 150 years? If we don't knock our planet out of orbit or something we have a very solid future.

Again, that depends on the definition of life and the definition of time. If we take life and time as we understand it, then I believe humans will own the planet for millions of years at the very least. It would take a hugecatastrophe to wipe out the human race.

Now then, in millions of years we may have evolved in to a new species. If that happens, do you concider humans dead or evolved?

What if time is a never ending loop and we repeat our lives over and over again?

What if there are multiple universes, do they come in to play?

What, exactly, is death? When we die, do we cease to exist? On that note, what, exactly, is life?

Do we really even understand time? We know it's interlaced with space, but what makes it go?

Where are we observing these millions of years go by? Is time traveling at the same speed at this point of observation? At which point are we measuring?

I can only conclude that we don't know enough to answer this question.

Guys our world isn't real. It's just a simulation made in the supercomputer known as our universe for a super advanced race of sentient beings who have lost records of their past in universal thermonuclear warfare and want to find out how life came to be again.

You may have taken it a bit further than I thought people would. :P But anyway, my opinion is that we (humans) will survive another million years provided all goes well and we don't wipe ourselves out. The people saying "evolve" in here - I think - are picturing beings that are totally different from us now. What I'm picturing is an evolution similar to that of a shark or insect where we don't change much even over a long period of time. So by human, I mean the same intelligible beings we are now. Same structure (maybe an extra fingers, webbed feet, longer arms, taller, bulkier, etc), but in the image that they came from us.

Do you think human beings will be present in the universe from here on out? I think so just because we know what it takes to live in outer space. The movie Wall-E got me thinking. :P EDIT: I guess a less arbitrary question would be: Do you think the human race will live on for a million more years? Can we? Will we survive even longer? Or is Earth where we will begin and end?ZumaJones07

[QUOTE="sSubZerOo"]... No never.. Inless we discovered some form of travel that was safe, and was many times faster then the speed of light. No never.. As it stands we are looking at never having the possibility of even getting a fraction of the speed of light.. Looking past the absurd amount of energy requirements it would require for them to get to that speed, and the ridiculous distances that even at that speed would take years to reach the closest star to us.. But the fact that when you go at those speeds and hit something the size of a baseball, its going to have the force of impact of a nuclear bomb.. Furthermore lets say we made ou planet self sufficent in never running resources.. The sun is finite.. The sun will die, and so will we when it becomes a red giant.. FURTHERMORE, lets ignore all that.. Sooner or later a gama ray burst from a super nova or other such tings will destroy our atmosphere.. EVEN ignoring all this there is still one thing that iwll happen.. The andreomeda Galaxy is on collision course with ours.. One of two things will happen when this occurs (most likely).. First one, we are flung out of the galaxy into the void.. Or we are flung into the center of the galaxy where we will become fodder from exploding starts, black holes or maybe even the super massive blackhole within the center.Zyrokin

And the fairy tale of Human Existence ends happily every after. The End.

One word. Wormholes. They are working on this... my guess is in about 2-3 hundred thousand years we will be able to travel through wormholes. These can warp you through space in the fraction of a second.

Till the end of time? Does time in this universe have an end? And if it does in say, 15 trillion years, what will humans even resemble? Look at how much we have changed in the last 2 million due to evolution. We might be an entirely different species by definition IF we were to survive.

A planet has been founded in the Andromeda galaxy to contain water and oxygen, though the time it would take to get their would be 60,000 years. And even now what will wait for us on the Moon or Mars? Their is no water(possibility) and no oxygen.(fact)

Theoretically (depending on the theory), yes, time will eventually deteriorate. This will happen long after the last star dies. Then again, if time and space doesn't exist in a gravitationalsingularity at the center of a black hole, I'm not sure how that's going to work. Perhaps new universes would be born?

What theory? As far as I'm aware, current models predict an ever expanding universe where all matter will decay, however I'm unaware of anything that says time will come to a stop.

[QUOTE="psychobrew"]

[QUOTE="HoolaHoopMan"]Till the end of time? Does time in this universe have an end? And if it does in say, 15 trillion years, what will humans even resemble? Look at how much we have changed in the last 2 million due to evolution. We might be an entirely different species by definition IF we were to survive. HoolaHoopMan

I saw it on the Science channel. I think it's this.

To literally answer the title of the thread, yes. When humanity ceases to exist then the idea of time will stop too. So when humanity dies so does time.

I don't see humanity making it 1,000,000 more years.

Guys our world isn't real. It's just a simulation made in the supercomputer known as our universe for a super advanced race of sentient beings who have lost records of their past in universal thermonuclear warfare and want to find out how life came to be again.shakmaster13
Lol I think that's a Star Ocean reference, if I'm not mistaken.
