I saw the leak around November on this website and it was for download. I didn't download it because I want the real version and maybe a review.

I have it on dual boot with Vista right now. It's alright, I like the new taskbar system. Also, the slideshow desktop background is cool. It'd be nice to test the touch features, but I can't afford a new monitor and I just don't think it's worth it.

I'll admit It takes getting used to, I still have XP but all my friends got new laptops for graduation and Iv gotten to play with vista and after awhile I got use to it. It runs fine and its pretty sleek looking, I dont understand why they need to change OS this soon especially when 7 doesnt look like its that different from Vista...

Their trying to get rid of the bad name Vista has. Also they were critized for being to late for a new OS. I find it funny their being yelled at for making one to soon.

It's got the same look/feel to it, but runs MUCH better. Memory and CPU useage aren't tapped like Vista, features are a bit more useable, taskbar and start menu is completely re-worked.

its 2 years later, vista was released in 2006. I tried win 7, pretty amazing if you ask me, however I had to switch back because 3ds max 2009 wouldn't save scenes. I know its just the first beta so I give it 9/10.

i loved how easy it was to install on my laptop and how well it was running( alot faster than vista). i never tried it on my desktop cause i finally have it set up the way i want(linux and xp) and i have to say linux is way better when everything works(have had nighmares installing it on laptops). if only linux could run steam i would be a happy guy.

New taskbar is great. The main problem is that they're still having compatibility issues, and with my luck one of those issues happens to be the antivirus program I need to get on my college's network. :(

The thing about Windows 7 and Vista, MS learned A LOT from Vista, I think that's what really made this OS start to sing to a lot of techies, cause they listend to peoples gripes and wants, and MS tried responding to that. They put in a lot of awesome features under the hood. Ya got the system to dynamically turn on/off services that are needed or not needed. This allows the system to use less resources, be faster and not be as bloated. They even optomized the UI interface in a way, where it doesn't bloat the GPU memory. For instance. let's say you have more then one video open and the videos are layered on top of each other, constantly running. What 7 does is it only displays the video when visible on the screen. If the video is behind another window (therefore you cannot see the video playing) the video is actually not present on the GPU, until it is moved to an area you can see it. Pretty nice! They even refined the UAC unit, so it's not constantly asking for your permission on needless tasks, they've made it smarter in a sense. They've also built a lot of gesture controls into the UI, because when developing this OS, they know that there's going to be TouchScreen laptops out there, so they did stuff like Aero Shake, where you shake the window and it immediately hides all other windows. The taskbar is more accessible with it's live previews, but using Aero Peek to easily identify what you are looking for. So really, there's a lot of under the hood development and they did things from what they've learned from Vista, seeing the huge impact it has made with consumers and techie nerds. Ya visually, the OS looks like Vista, but come on...what do you expect? OS X looked/looks the same as it did in the first release OS 10.0, so don't hate! I've downloaded the beta, and I can't wait to install it, with all the good things I've been hearing, it's looking like MS has made a winning OS so far.

That does suck. Obviously there are bound to be compatibility issues. My wireless card is having problems at the moment, and I can't figure out what it is. I've tried Vista and XP drivers with no luck. But yes, the new taskbar is fantastic.

 You guys really should've tried out Mac's OSX awhile ago. Everything you guys are describing is Leopard. Ease of use, nice taskbar, ease of setup, etc. From the pics I've seen, they really copied some idea, such as showing small picture of the minimized windows in the corner, oh well:wink:

im gonna get flamed but thats nothing new so here it goes. IMO Windows >>> Macs >>> Linux. Linux is great if you have patience to actually build it to run w/e or to do simply things. I understand linux and im running on it now and its smooth but to get to the smoothness it takes time. Macs are cool but are overpriced, most software doesnt run with it, and teh no games ( I dont mean literally). Windows just has the complete package of things that I need without the prettiness. The prettiness is added in 7 as a bonus but I dont have to worry about a not installing because b doesnt work with it. Windows has that straight forward approach instead of distractions.

But the difference between OS X dock and the Win 7 Taskbar, is it actually does something! I think you're being heavily biased on it, not really knowing what the Win 7 task bar actually does.

The OSX dock works fine as a program launcher but irritates me whenever I have more than 2 windows open. It just doesn't work as well for doing multiple things at once IMO. Also, OSX can't run Left 4 Dead. :P

Have you tried changing compatibility? (If it's available)?

I haven't but I doubt it would work, because it even messed up with the software's licensing, my version turned from "indefinite commercial" to "unregisterd" after a while, on top of that the application could neither save nor load scenes, giving a corrupt file message, and thats after several reinstall. I am aware theres a fair amount of softwares incompatibilities, but its only the first beta so I guess no big deal. if all goes well I will DEFINITELY buy a copy when windows 7 is released.

I love it too. It seems too soon for a new OS, but I suppose by the time the bugs get worked at... and they shoot that guy that does the Mac vs. PC commercials... it'll be about right.

People like to complain about Vista, but at the same time complain that Windows 7 is releasing too soon. I think it takes some balls from Microsoft to basically acknowledge that Vista sucks and bring the release of the next OS forward so people dont have to use it. You cant have it both ways; i dont see why people hate on the OS they have, then hate on efforts to replace with a better one too.

I haven't really experienced many problems with Vista other than it's initial crappiness that bogged down its release two years ago. Since then, I've had no major complaints about the OS, but I am currently downloading the evaluation version of Windows 7 to see if it'll be worth the upgrade.
