Maybe if you researched and knew what you were on about you wouldnt be concerned... "abandoning actual computers" :roll:Maybe if you'd actually read the whole thread before posting, you'd see we've already covered this about 10 times... Well then don't go saying silly things like that in the first place! :P[QUOTE="Birdy09"][QUOTE="Pirate700"]It concerns my that MS is starting to abandon actual computers.

I would try it myself but I like my windows 7 and It came preloaded with my laptop so I don't want to have to go through the proces of reinstaling the OS, and I actually still miss my xp. I wish my old computer hadn't died. If it weren't for directx 10 and 11 I would stil be on xp. Now here comes windows 8 going in a whole other direction... and everybody's like "WHAT?" People(including me) are VERY hesitant of accepting this new os because of the look. I do hope it will be good, but I'm very hesitant. They're going in a whole other direction, and only time will tell if they can pull it of.
But the one major thing that pisses me off is that the desktop.. the major thing throughout the history of operating systems(atleast most windows versions)... is now only one of many apps... The base of the computer got turned into one of the features. I like starting my computer to see that incredably attractive wallpaper waiting for me, not a screen with colorful rectangles listing all the apps.
Another question is if internet explorer is integrated like they say, will you be able to get that sort of integration with other browsers like Firefox and Chrome? I personally don't like internet explorer, I kindof like it now but that's only because internet explorer 8 looks exactly like chrome. I'm stil sticking to chome so how would that work?

They arent going in a new direction. They are adding in better support for touch and pen devices. They arent replacing the direction Windows is going.
I think people are havign a seriously difficult time grasping this concept: You can turn that feature off. It works well for touchbased devices. It works only decent with a mouse. Stick to the Win 7 style.
The new Internet Explorer has some of the best touch screen support of any browser. Its integration is pretty good. Yes, theres no technological reason why Firefox or Chrome couldn't do it (especially since this Windows 8 is a windows build for developers including all the necessary SDK tools for making your own applications to take advantage of Windows 8). Chrome and Firefox may adopt it, or they might never. Its not a decision or limitation of Microsoft at this point.
I think people are just plain ignoring the fact that you can switch to the the traditional desktop UI with literally one click. I'm usin the preview now and really like it.well like he said that it's better to use the traditional windows fashion than what actually is the difference between windows 8 and windows 7 that would be any good in the normal destop format? I would rather use it in the normal format but I would be conflicted because I just spent over a hundred dollars for something barely different from what I already had.
[QUOTE="KiIIyou"]prolly Was gonna try that developer preview thing but I don't got any blank cds.XaosII
You can install it via a USB thumbdrive. You can download the Windows 7 USB Tool for it. Its also much faster to install off a thumbdrive.
The one I got is too small for something that big. :3No, windows 8 was designed with mobile market/tablets in mind, that is what the UI is like that for, and you can change it to how it normally is. The other reason they have made windows 8 is because they want to force XBL onto pc users. XBL is so horrible ill be staying with windows 7 until it is dropped support...even then i might still use it.
Ha! It seems most of you don't even know the new features Windows 8 offers!
[QUOTE="dontshackzmii"]Better game support. Plus all you need is a student email account, (which can be obtained fairly easily even if you aren't a student) and windows is only like $40.get linux its freedom why pay 120$ for windows?

I'll probably just wait until I need a new PC, that already has 8 installed.
I already learned my lesson after 7. I purchased 7, and a few months later, my PC dies. 100 bucks well spent.
I bought Windows 7 about 6 months ago and still haven't installed it. >.> I'm still using Vista: to all the haters, wah wah cry some moar. Stop buying software on day 1 and expecting it to work perfectly. I've never had any issues with Vista that weren't easily fixable or wouldn't happen on any other system. No loss of data or files or major crashes or anything. I will eventully switch to Windows 7 nd hopefully that will last a while.
They haven't even fixed 7 yet. What a bunch of monkeys they are.SolidSnake35What the hell is wrong with 7?
Ha! It seems most of you don't even know the new features Windows 8 offers!
- All Windows 7 applications will run natively on Windows 8
- Security update notifications have been minimized to the lower right of the log-in screen
- Refreshed Windows Task Manager suspends apps when they're not running on-screen
- New "Reset and Refresh PC" functions enable simplified system wipe and restore
- HyperV virtualization software comes pre-loaded on Windows 8
- Multi-monitor support now enables a single background across screens, as well as monitor-specific task bars
- Multi-touch support enabled for Internet Explorer 10
- Magnifier function enhanced for desktop manipulation
- Optional thumb-by-thumb input mode
- SkyDrive storage support integrated into all cloud-based apps
- Metro-StyIe refresh for Mail, Photos, Calendar and People apps with Windows Live ID
- Settings roam allows for preferences to sync across a user's Windows 8 devices
- Continued update support for Windows 8 Developer Preview Beta
- Even a Lenovo S10 (first-gen Atom + 1GB of RAM) can "run" Windows 8
- There's "no overlays" with Windows 8; Metro-StyIe goodness is baked into the core
- Both Metro-StyIe and conventional Win32 apps will be sold in the Windows Store
- Windows 8 devices equipped with an NFC chip will be able to use a tap-to-share feature to either send content from one device to another, or simply receive content from something like an NFC-equipped card.
- Logins will use a photo-based system
- Apps will be able to natively connect and understand one another (if written as such)
- Built-in antivirus software will ship in Windows 8
- There will not be a different edition of Windows 8 for tablets, and presumably, not for Media Centers either
- It's unclear how many "editions" (Home, Professional, Ultimate, etc.) of Windows 8 there will be

Microsoft has already announced that the tablet version will be the same as the desktop version at their conference when they showed windows 8 on a bunch of computers. And if the "build-in anti virus" works as well as the windows firewall we're in trouble. Windows live will be completely integrated which annoys alot of people, I know I really hate most ofthe live features that came with 7 even though most of everything else was good. And really... login photobased? What are you talking about? Facial recognition? And multiscreened monitors in windows 7 support a shared background too... I do it all the time with my laptop and desktop. The thumb drive I am kindof impressed with, but the idea is nowhere near original. Reminds me of the google OS where you just log in and your os is saved on the internet, the whole os is in a browser. But this time it's saved on a USB. I like my files to stay on the computer most of the time.
If it's not as troublesome as Vista and have the enchanced performance of Windows 7 - count me in.
( Why , my Vista broke down in a year and a half , must be a new record - my older PC were still working even after a decade or so - with little maintenance at that. Changed to Windows 7 the moment my Vista died. )

Only if they start making Halo for pc.
Halo and Halo 2 are on pc.Windows was best in the XP days. With each new addition, Windows is getting worse instead of better.

[QUOTE="SilverSignal"] Waited 8 years for Windows 7? What the hell are you talking about?xXDrPainXx
I am talking about a GOOD DECENT os, XP launched in 2001, 7 launched in 2009. Vista was a piece of s*** not worth the name of Operating System and does not count.
2009-2001=8
I once had vista.... it deleted all of my files one by one.. I went back to xp and ever since I have acted like vista never existed.
Must have missed out on Windows ME then. Now that was crap and makes Vista look normal.
Back on topic though....downloading a dev preview of Windows 8 now. I'm figuring much hasn't changed under the hood or to the kernel so I doubt its going to be the next big thing.
UGH Windows ME. I remember that thing. Such a God damn travesty. That's the Superman 64 of Operating Systems. Please Log In to post.
