My philosophy on any sort of competitive activity (including video games) is that winning is everything. Part of this comes from my natural desire to want to win, and part of it is how absolutely sick I am of people saying winning is not important. Many of the people who take the route of 'playing for fun' just do it because of their lack of skill in a particular activity and do not want to embarrass themselves. I have never been this way, I always try my hardest whether I am good at the activity or not. Now I'm not saying that it's impossible to play a game just for fun, but at its root, it should be about winning. Now before you go off saying that I am probably a jerk who goes into online matches or plays sports and belittles anyone who is not on my level, you got me all wrong. I play hard, and do what it takes to win.

What do you guys think? How important is winning to you?

Meh. It's great to be competitive but not all the time. I really do play for fun when I'm online because if it's not fun, then what's the point?

Many child psychologists and education experts suggest that competition is potentially damaging to a child's development, as it leads to a psychologically instilled dog-eat-dog mentality, which is what Humanity has been trying to un-instill in these enlightened times. As for willingly entering into competition, there is a difference between healthy and unhealthy competition.

You should be playing to win AND for fun.

If I lose, it really sucks, but oh well, I'll just use that loss as an example to better myself, so that I can win next time! ;)

But I always do things for fun. I want to compete in things that I find are fun.

If you truly don't care (and I have no way to prove you wrong), then it doesn't bother me. What does are the idiots who pretend not to care when they really do and it's easy to tell, and they're just using it as a self-defense mechanism.

Yup. Winning is everything. It's important to have fun, but if I'm not crushing my opponent then I'm probably having a bad time. Whether I'm playing a sport or a game online, I have to win. If I'm getting my ass kicked, things get broken.

Sometimes is important other times is not. This aint even something i have doubts or something, and neither you would have. You will find someday why. its just a matter of time. Winning aint always the best thing, and sometimes winning wont even make you feel better.

I follow the same mindset. I understand having fun is the purpose of a video game though, but I don't have fun when your also suppose to win and your just failing. Do you have fun trying to beat that one level over and over, but you just keep losing? Same goes in MP for me. Maybe someone has fun just shooting someone, but my version of having fun is winning.

I don't mean to be advesarial, but I can't stand wise guys like you. People like you often put themselves on a pedestal sayinng they are above having the desire to win. This philosophy is just straight out of a feel-good movie, where a team or person loses for a nobler cause. In real life, there are very few exceptions to winning being of the upmost importance. Don't take this personally though.

no not at all lol. :P i also think winning is very important, and of course i love to win. And i think if you look that way of winning in everything that thers no way to deny that wining is all that matters. But what i was trying to say is that sometimes to win you gotta lose. Alright this probably wont make any sense lol. I also have that winning attitude, when i used to play football ( soccer ) on school for example, i hated when other guys said they where only playing for fun, and started questioning everyone that was taking that too serious. That annoyed me, it was no fun to playing it that way, and most of the times people say that when they arent good and something. But other times i just dont care if i win or lose, i just dont care. im not that obsessed with it. I thnk that kind of attitude altough everyone should have a bit of it, it will lead to arrogance, and that wont always be good for yourself. i think the biggest win is to be happy , and if you can only be happy by winning, then your life will be pretty sad at times.

Haha, nice try, but it's definitely not. Most people don't remember AoStH, I'm proud of you.

It certainly is! Sonic doesn't need no girl friend or any of that lousy stuff, in Aosth he has a brain, gives advice, and is humorous. My favorite show :D (Ok, maybe not my favorite, but good show)

Actually, I can see what SatAm can be seen as better, I thought that at one point, until I saw the Sonic comics... made by Archie. Let me just fetch you a picture... (It's based on SatAm, and oh lordy is this comic series bad)

you also realize that winning is a subjective term right? and you cant actually win at everything. sometimes by wiining at something your losing another, and in that way you arent really winning everything.

Oh, ok. Then I think I initially misunderstood you. I thought you were one of those "WINNING IS TEH MOST IMPORTANT THING NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES!!!!!" You know, the cheating low-life types. I think what you are saying is that you should always try your best at everything you do. If that is what your saying, then yes, I agree with you.
