My computer is slowing down a lot and having some problems, and has a lot of junk so I'm gonna wipe my drive. My only concern is iTunes. Would I be able to transfer everything from my ipod back onto itunes? If not, what can I do to keep my library?

I believe if you save the iTunes library file from your iTunes folder and keep all your music in the same spot before and after (my music, for instance) then it should keep everything. If these files are downloaded from iTunes, then I don't know.

It looks like Sharepod doesn't transfer apps. Tried Google, and stil haven't found any that transfer apps.
In the future, I highly recommend having at least 2 HDDs. One for booting/windows install and the other for everything you download and store. It really helps when you have to do a reinstall or maintenance because all your data will be untouched

You don't need two HDDs, just two partitions.
- DEACTIVATE your computer (Store -> Deauthorize Computer) so that copy-protected material will be able to play on the new partition (might be necessary, especially if upgrading the OS) vgm007
Don't worry about this step - the new process has removed the need for it. Now you can simply go into your account settings and deauthorize every computer previously connected, rather than contact customer service. It's a godsend, especially when you shift computers or reinstall your OS a lot.
edit - also, picking up a cheap external hard drive would make the whole process much easier, and they're always nice to have around.

I'ts very easy to do, it's just the copy protected songs that cause a problem.
I've done this several times before, so here's how I did it: - Either back up your iTunes library to DVDs or copy the iTunes folder to a separate hard drive. - DEACTIVATE your computer (Store -> Deauthorize Computer) so that copy-protected material will be able to play on the new partition (might be necessary, especially if upgrading the OS) - Proceed with reformatting/reinstalling - Install iTunes - Reactivate your computer (Store -> Authorize Computer) - Restore the backup (either by inserting the first backup disc with iTunes running or by copying over the iTunes folder again)vgm007Exactly. Do this. It is very important to DEACTIVATE your current install of iTunes ince you only get 5 total. That one that you may not deactivate will forever be lost.

Where? I can't find it and this seems like something I should know about. :PI just saw the back up to disc option under file, then library. If I did this, would I be able to back up everything(apps included) to discs, and then after I wipe my drive, put everything back into itunes?
Where? I can't find it and this seems like something I should know about. :Ptsduv21It's under Store > View My Account. The first section ends with how many computers are authorized to use your account - when it hits the maximum of 5 a button appears so you can zero them all out. You will have to reauthorize any computers you still use, but that just requires entering you password once. And yeah, you should be able to use their backup function to make copies of everything. I haven't tried it myself as I just copy the files manually to my second and network drives, but it seems simple enough. (I didn't bother because I have about 80GB of TV shows and that's a lot of DVDs)
i'm gonna tell you right now... clearing space off of your hard drive isn't going to do anything but make your hard drive read faster. the way to make your OS faster is to uninstall unneeded programs, make sure that only necessary programs run at startup, don't run everything in the little taskbar at the bottom right at the same time. also disable visual effects and search indexing, and if necessary do a clean install of your OS itself.
EDIT: and as to the itunes program, go into my documents/my music/itunes/itunesmusic/
and just copy everything over to an external hard drive, or you could burn everything to CD's if you really have the time.
i never had any problems with such a procedure, even with songs i bought off of itunes

Oh, that makes sense. No wonder I didn't see the option to restart it.;)
I already have done everything you suggested, but my hard drive is running low on space and my computer's slowing down, uninstalling is giving me error messages, not everything is on the programs list. And I am doing a clean install of the OS and wiping the drive. I should have said that earlier. Anyways, I'm going to use the back up to disc option. [QUOTE="chopperdave447"]By the way, if you use this option you can't back up any videos. Unless they've added that recently, which I don't think they have. This is going to take a lot of discs. Apple really needs to make something that lets you transfer from your ipod to computer. What if your hard drive crashes and your stuff gets erased? Oh and I found an old WD portable drive, but I can't get it working. My computer can't find the drivers for it, and they don't have any drivers on the website.
[QUOTE="WiiRocks66"]Don't bother with disks. You can just get a cheap external harddrive. The WD portable drive should work. I'm not sure where to go to find the drivers for it though. You could also use a flash drive if you can fit all of the songs onto it. I'm confused by what he means for drivers. Look at the last post. I can easily get the music I didn't buy from iTunes back. Thanks to all who helped.

According to the support website, that either means the cable is bad or the drive is. I found a solution anyways. I'll be going to BB soon to pick up some things, and I'm probably going to get an external hard drive. This is going to take a lot of discs.
