Woman writes letter to mother of mentally handicapped child and well...

A family is in shock and a community has united after an anonymous hate letter was written about a young boy living with severe autism.

Karla Begley told CityNews her son Max, 13, stays with his grandmother in the morning during the summer time. It was at that home in Newcastle where letter was delivered on Friday.

I was shaking when I was reading it, Brenda Millson, Maxs grandmother, told CityNews. Its awful words. You dont know why somebody would ever do such a thing.

The typed, one-page letter refers to the young boy as a nuisance and a wild animal before suggesting the family move or euthanize the child.

Begley says the police have been contacted and should they have grounds, charges will be filed against the letters author.

they probably can't charge the person with a meaningful offense but it would still be good to talk to the police so you could establish a case for harrassment if it continues to occur.  Or so the police are aware in case anything escalates

I work with kids with autism and this almost made me cry...

Not sure how it works in Canada but that wouldn't be defamation here. It was a private letter and everything said in it was said seemingly as opinion.

Sad, but as someone with an autistic brother and who has worked with autistic children, I don't find it surprising.

The lack of education in regards to the challenges of "controlling" an autistic person is appalling. No one seems to understand that when a child (or worse, a fully-grown autistic adult) has an "episode" (or, as some parents call them, a meltdown), it's not always possible to calm them or rein them in. It's sometimes best to let the meltdown/episode run its course, and if you have no idea what's going on, it can seem scary or bothersome.

So, no... I wouldn't smack "One Pissed-Off Mother!!!" for being a Class A bitch, but I would force her to take classes in autism awareness.

Because the mother MADE it public. It's not like the person who wrote the letter published it all over the place and included actual names.

If this falls under actual criminal libel then Canada is in worse shape than I thought.
