[QUOTE="God-of-Blood"]If I asked a girl to marry me, and she said yes, then it's her ring forever. Why would it still be yours if you're GIVING her the ring so she will marry you? Maybe you should say, "Will you marry me? Oh, the ring is still mine btw, i'm just letting you wear it." See how well that goes over... The guy is free to sell his own ring. If you want the girl to buy her own ring for the wedding, tell her. Just because it's customary for the male to buy the ring in America doesn't mean that you are FORCED to. If you want to buy her a ring, great, but don't expect it back.cheese_game619
ahaha what is this s***

He's right. My wife's wedding ring is her property. And mine is my property. If we get divorced we're each free to do as we please with our rings.

I feel that engagement rings are a gift, just like any other gift (TV, clothes, earrings, whatever) but wedding rings should be split 50/50 if the couple chooses to sell them.

no >Why would it still be yours if you're GIVING her the ring so she will marry you? are you kidding? you dont give them the ring so they will marry you, you give them it because thats our symbol for marriage. when the marriage is over, dont be a slut, the guy had to pay for it so he can have it back.

Well if things turn sour, no reason to keep something sentimental.

A dude who spends a few thousand dollars on a ring to give to a woman... probably deserves to lose everything he has. I fvcking would never spend that much money on a rock... You know we have money problems, and we wonder why...

A few thousand USD is barely a fortune. Maybe your financial woes have other origins, like you selling freedom fries.

I thought the agreement was to GET married as far as the engagement ring goes. Once they ARE married that particular promise is met. Otherwise what are the wedding rings for? If her wedding ring has to be returned to the husband, his has to be retured to her as well.
Not sure it's fair to qualify giving it back based on who ends it. If you think it's an obligation, it's an obligation regardless of the details. (Though personally I agree that cheaters are sh!t out of luck in many cases.)binpink

Can a woman sell her ring at any point in a marriage then? If it's just a ring...

Sure, but she might piss off her husband doing so.

Reuse it? Serious? Give a girl a ring that belonged to you ex-wife and see how far that gets you.

The fact is you won't get much from a used wedding or engagement right. No matter how much is cost you you'll only get a fraction of what you paid for it. Because the jewlery store can't resell it for much. People don't want used wedding/engagement rights. They don't want something that's been on someone else's hand (and in a failed relationship at that), at least not for what it symbolizes. The jeweler can pretty much only sell it to someone who can't afford to spend much on a ring and thus, by necessity, takes the trade-off of having a used ring for a nicer one than he could otherwise afford. Anybody who can afford to spent more than the former guy is not going to buy used.

its not something i would do but yeah people reuse them all the time you would get plenty back, you dont sell it back to the jewellers, you sell it online. theres a whole market of people who thrift shop for weddings so they can get cheaper prices on decent stuff also, in either case, the guy doesnt have to tell his lady it wasnt new ;)

- People might try to reuse them, but most women I know would be absolutely insulted by it.

- Uh-huh, and you really think you're going to get a lot online? Especially with so tens of thousands of sellers and so many people trying to get things on the cheap?

- Possibly you could get by with that, provided that the ring has had no custom engravings (as such rings often do) or no visible wear.

Just because something is listed doesn't mean it's selling. People often overestimate the market value of a thing when they're trying to sell it because they want to sell it for what they think it's worth. Well there's what something is "worth", and then there's what someone is willing to give you for it. You see this kind of sh*t all the time on eBay - items listed that don't sell because the seller is asking more than anyone is willing to pay for it.

You do realize that you're contradicting yourself right? You're saying that there's this whole big market where people can sell their used wedding rings for lots of money because people want stuff cheap. You're saying that money's tight so folks are going to spend thousands on used wedding rings.
