No unions to impede production, lol. Blame the Chinese government for being an authoritarian cult of personality (around Mao) and having a seat on the UN Security Council.

Shame, human labour in china is cheap and disposable.

In a country of 1.3 billion, no one is really all that valued.

Why not?

Change is individual (you, yourself, not buying from China - or similar countries. I've influenced people on the subject in my own life). Is it difficult? Sure. But you can, for instance, do a work around by buying products used rather than new.

The US, UK, Canada, etc., and our allies, have plenty of resources. Living without Chinese products might not be easy or fun, but it's right. And I'm going to do my part.
God bless,

Yes, if you care for some wild principles, but I am trying to be a bit pragmatic here. One, two or even a hundred consumers won't change anything. Manufacturers know that people know but they also know that nobody would be able to supply the ROW even if they were to boycott. It's mostly up to the Chinese themselves if they even want to change anything. If not, there's nothing we can do to almost a multibillion nation.

I think those factory workers would rather you buy the products they make since they need the money.

China is very poor country with about 20% the per capita income of the U.S., it can't really afford to kill its export led growth by demanding that workers be given expensive safety regulations. Developed nations can afford those and not have their manufacturing bases destroyed since they are capital intensive, not labour intensive. Don't expect things to change in China unless they become significantly richer (which will require people to buy their products) and/or social pressures become significant enough for the PRC to agree to nationwide reforms.

It was the same here 100 years ago. We didn't solve those problems overnight, but people seem to think the Chinese should be able to.

In my opinion it's up to the people in China to fight for better working conditions, not the world. If they want to be mindless sheep to the herd controlled by big corporations who actually need them just as much as the workers need the big corporations then I say let them. If you aren't willing to step up to the plate and fight for better working conditions and better wages you aren't worth having better working conditions and better wages.

That's what I don't understand. How these people can work in these sweatshops, make these iphones, make all this technology, make tons of other sh*t yet be fine with making next to nothing doing it. If enough of them just got up and said "fvck it we are done being your slaves, we want better pay and working conditions" They would get them.

I refuse to feel bad for buying products made by these people because they refuse to stand up for themselves.

Not necessarily. That might work well enough in nations with a much smaller workforce, but in a nation of over 1.3 billion people (compared to 300 million for the US) there's always going to be a abundance of workers willing to replace one who refuses to work.

This is the evil corrupt capitalist system at work. They are slaves to to mega cooperation's or they will become homeless and starve to death. People in the west can only live the life style they do by stomping all over people in Poor nations. One day the worker will rise up and say no more. Then this will be the end of the western way of life.

And Apple primarily (exclusively, maybe?) uses Foxconn, where salaries have shot up 80% in the last year to like $650 a month, I think. To us, that's massively underpaid, but it's well above minimum wage in the areas of China that Foxconn operates in. Morons here should be yelling at the Chinese government, not the companies. Although they're just as unlikely to care.

what do those two reasons you listed have anything to do with the problem? These things dont happen in Indonesia? Vietnam? Bangladesh? Take away the security council seat. fine, then what? The world will coerce them into adopting labour laws?

I won't bother reading it, it's the same kind of thing every time. but it is probably better than prison condition in the US, where 2.3 million are currently incarcerated in modern slavery camps.

At the incarceration rate of 730/100000, by far the highest out of all countries, and is more than 6 times higher than Communist nanny government China at 121/100000. Long live libertarian minded USA.

Because that's the best they can get. If the factory work the Chinese do wasn't the best paid available they would not migrate all the way from farms to cities (remember, China is bigger than the U.S. landwise, so those distances are rather large and have to be crossed on much more congested infrastructure) to work in them.

Pretty much all electronics/computer companies use this system, so why single out Apple? Start with whatever company markets the device you're posting from.

This is interesting. China is providing us with an example of what a "Right-To-Work" nation would look like when it comes to worker's rights.
