China is very poor country with about 20% the per capita income of the U.S., it can't really afford to kill its export led growth by demanding that workers be given expensive safety regulations. Developed nations can afford those and not have their manufacturing bases destroyed since they are capital intensive, not labour intensive. Don't expect things to change in China unless they become significantly richer (which will require people to buy their products) and/or social pressures become significant enough for the PRC to agree to nationwide reforms.

It was the same here 100 years ago. We didn't solve those problems overnight, but people seem to think the Chinese should be able to.

You are aware that it's not just Apple that takes advantage of cheap Chinese labor right?

In my opinion it's up to the people in China to fight for better working conditions, not the world. If they want to be mindless sheep to the herd controlled by big corporations who actually need them just as much as the workers need the big corporations then I say let them. If you aren't willing to step up to the plate and fight for better working conditions and better wages you aren't worth having better working conditions and better wages.

That's what I don't understand. How these people can work in these sweatshops, make these iphones, make all this technology, make tons of other sh*t yet be fine with making next to nothing doing it. If enough of them just got up and said "fvck it we are done being your slaves, we want better pay and working conditions" They would get them.


I refuse to feel bad for buying products made by these people because they refuse to stand up for themselves.

Not necessarily. That might work well enough in nations with a much smaller workforce, but in a nation of over 1.3 billion people (compared to 300 million for the US) there's always going to be a abundance of workers willing to replace one who refuses to work.

I won't bother reading it, it's the same kind of thing every time. but it is probably better than prison condition in the US, where 2.3 million are currently incarcerated in modern slavery camps.

At the incarceration rate of 730/100000, by far the highest out of all countries, and is more than 6 times higher than Communist nanny government China at 121/100000. Long live libertarian minded USA.

Because that's the best they can get. If the factory work the Chinese do wasn't the best paid available they would not migrate all the way from farms to cities (remember, China is bigger than the U.S. landwise, so those distances are rather large and have to be crossed on much more congested infrastructure) to work in them.

Pretty much all electronics/computer companies use this system, so why single out Apple? Start with whatever company markets the device you're posting from.
