Saw this article on my phone; thought I'd share. Not sure how reliable the news site is.

What do you think? Is there truth to this or is it just fear mongering?

The bit about Pakistan becoming more unstable and the possibility of terrorists getting a hold of nukes sounds pretty worrying.

We may even be three minutes closer to WW3 than we were when this thread was made.

Well, Pakistan is a coup away from nuking places, whether it's them directly doing it or a general handing them to religious zealots. I don't think Russia is much of a threat though. Their country is a mess and they have a declining population.

the people in Pakistan who are angling for the use of nukes ARE the religious zealots. Muslims in Pakistan and India have been trying to at least destroy the Buddhists and Hindus in Kashmir for around 65-75 years. The conflict between India and Pakistan is the most dangerous threat of nuclear warfare in the world.

european countries are in a state of emergency, which means they can change the constitution, and they already did that. Most european countries can now detain people for no reason, if there is a presumption that that person is capable of a terrorist attack.

The powers that can detain people are no longer police and justice system only, also politicians can do this now. It's not everywhere yet, but even here in belgium they are talking about doing that.

Non sense. Pakistan politicians are idiots, but Pakistan military is not to be confused for a bunch of rebels with AKs. They're highly trained army with well informed intelligence which I believed tricked the US and its allies and hid Bin Laden for political reasons.

A World War is when several nations band up together to fight another large band of nations that's allied themselves, not if a terrorist group gets ahold of weaponry that can do alot of damage.

If you have Hillary theres more chances with her to have a WW3.

Also wars are not fought like they used to be, we will never have an all out war of super power nations vs super power nations.

Sanctions and blockades, hitting them financially, is basically how to fight now.

Basically, super power nations have gotten too power to actually fight, they simply threaten each other with their might and have mini wars in unimportant places (like the middle east) for strategic upper hands and control.

You wont see WW3 in the traditional sense.

We'll be closer to WW3 tomorrow, the day after, and so on.

The world is relatively more peaceful compared to decades before. However, there are countries becoming unstable such as some of the BRICs and Middle East and North Africa (I'm looking at you, Saudi Arabia) which is concerning if you're worried about future conflicts and instability.

The likelihood of World War 3 happening is very, very low mostly because of how the world has becoming more connected, peace is more desirable (people who lived through the World Wars don't want another one), and nukes. Could it happen? Yes but it would require a series of events that would lead two or more dominant countries into a massive war. It's just not likely.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over this.

For people who don't know The Sun, they're gutter press. I never believe anything that they have to say. It's tabloids like The Sun which have nearly ruined Journalism.

I'd be fairly confident in saying that much of that article is mostly made up.

There will never be a World War III.

There can never be a common enemy for the allies to unite against. All that is going to happen is lots of proxy/civil wars in third world countries that see lots of people die while first world countries stand back and watch it all happen.

I doubt the world would end with WW3. There are many places in the world that aren't worth sending a nuke to. Plus, they are in a part of the world where the weather patterns aren't right for nuclear fallout to be blown over.

Also, the nuclear arsenals now are much smaller than back in the 80's when the Cold War still existed. Throughout the 90's and 2000's, both US and Russian stockpiles have been steadily reduced.

Even in the 80's, the Russkies thought a nuclear winter was survivable. I agreed although it wasn't a popular opinion in the West at the time. The latter was stuck in the "mutually assured destruction" mindset. Not me. ;)
