I just finished reading A Streetcar Named Desire (not a novel, but I'd say it still counts) for my English A2 course and really enjoyed it. There are a lot of layers to that play. As for worst, I dunno, I don't really remember hating any book I've had to read for school so far. At a stretch I'd say Of Mice and Men because barely anything actually happens.

Of recent years: Of Mice and Men. It was okay, just not something I preferred.

As for best, I loved Raisin in the Sun.

I really can't think of a book I've read for school that I've really hated. In general, I like almost everything I read.

I read Lord of the Rings in 6th grade. The Hobbit was on the summer reading list and then I read the Lord of the Rings as my free choice throughout the year. In 8th grade I read Ender's Game Nothing notable until 12th grade when I read Out of the Silent Planet. I haven't read anything in college.

Lord of the Flies was definately one of the better ones. I'm German and we read all of this old German literature in German class...most of it is boring as ****. But still better than reading Shakespeare imo. Now THAT was no fun.

edit: I remember reading Hatchet by Gary Paulsen...that was a good book.

Oh yeah, Julius Caesar was the one thing I read in school that I really hated. Shakespeare isn't that great when read in general, but Julius Caesar was terrible.

We had to read Macbeth for our GCSEs. I failed that exam. I preferred it in Primary School when we read books like Fantastic Mr Fox.

Worst- Great expectations, The Alchemist, Out of The Dust, My Brother Sam is Dead, Johnny Tremain

Best- The Outsiders

I hated the Outsiders. I read it 3 times and each time I read it I cared less and less about the characters. It seems too shallow. On the other hand, The Alchemist is a brilliant story, with a great life lesson.

Same here. I'm having to study it again for my A2 lit/lang course now actually, and it's just as annoying now as it was then >_>.

Best was Catcher in the Rye, and by far the worst was A Separate Peace.

Legendaryscmt

 all the people in honors language arts this year are having to read that book. just about all of them hate it. Fortunately im in Gifted, and we are reading the Odessy. Its frikken bad ass. I actually get it. We read it once in 7th grade but it made no sense. But im in 9th grade and i have learned a lot more and i actually understand it.

btw another book i hated(well it was a play):

MacBeth. Oh God NO! It was so boring and terrible. And i missed the first week of when we began the book in class, so when i came back, a week late on the stupid thing, it made even less sense.

Best: Samurai's Garden, really cool story with some pretty depressing parts that I enjoy.

Worst: Pride and Prejudice. This books needs to be mentioned in this thread. It just had very little merit besides teaching people how money and social class affect everyone's and not to judge people at first impression. One of the only books I have disliked in high school.

i think that was on of the worst parts. the book was so choppy and the book never seemed to follow a plot. And by the end nothing really changed except now she knows that she can't forget her family and friends when she is famous....woo..hoo.??

Best: One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest

Worst: I can't remember the name of the book, but it was about a girl and guy who were in love. The guy couldn't marry her so his (not exactly genius) plan was to marry her sister instead. I really hate romance stories about stupid and selfish people.
