What is your worst summer blockbuster movie of all time?
For me its Batman and Robin *shudders*
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Green Lanturn was pretty ugly.
I'm sure there are many more blocks that sucked more, but i'm too lazy to think...
Independence Day.sSubZerOoThis along with Transformers 2. I would also say transformers 3 but I didn't see that one so I can't say for certain if it was as bad as 2 or worse or better.
Green Lantern, wow what a piece of crap! Everyone who made that movie is going to burn in movie hell, yes that's right there is a special layer of hell where bad movies and actors go where they torment sinners forever! I know I've seen it, it's called "failure to launch" stupid STUPID move! I broke up with a girl because she made me see that....
After the movie green lantern I demanded my money back from the ticket office but I stopped because it made me look like a stereotype. I'm jewish and a jewish guy asking for money back doesn't really look right you know..... :P
Avatar, I have it in my top 5 worst movies list.
Batman: The Dark Knight was also pretty horrible.
Inception wasn't the worst, but it was a let down considering the concept was solid but it just turned into an almost generic action film in the lost 30 minutes when they were fighting in the snow area.
POTC 2 and 3 were also pretty bad, but the 4th definitely made up for them.
How was the Dark Knight horrible? I know its not the best but I wouldn't put it that low. And what is POTC?Avatar, I have it in my top 5 worst movies list.

POTC = pirates of the caribbean
I really didn't like the dark knight. They kept dragging it out and decided to set up the next movie way too early, which took away from the story at hand. The Joker was kind of boring with the exception of 1 or 2 interesting moments. Overall, I was just bored, which is odd since the one before it I thought was actually pretty good. I'm not sure if it's as much that it was horrible, or if it was the hype that ended up killing it for me. I thought it started off pretty good, but then it kept going and going and going. I'm hoping the next one has a better focus, which this one really seemed to lack.

I thought Avatar was great, yeah it was basically a rip off of "Dances With Wolves" but I still enjoyed it. Great movie IMO!
Dark Knight was also great, why do so many people bash it? I think people attak it so much to be "cool", well sorry it doesn't.
Inception I thought was boring and stupid, cool special effects and all but it really didn't make sense. The plot was over complex and that doesn't make it good, just the writers trying to be "smart" but in reality just being obnoxious and annoying. Having something overly completx that no one can follow doesn't make your story good, it makes it suck.
And what is POTC?

I thought The Dark Knight was excellent, but it is possible that he didn't enjoy it because he thought it was horrible.
After all, The Dark Knight being a good movie is not a fact by any means.
I'll agree with Avatar and POTC 2 and 3(although they weren't THAT bad imo) but how the hell are inception and TDK on that list? Sure they're not the greatest movies of all time but to call them some of the worst summer block busters ever is ridiculous to say the least.Avatar, I have it in my top 5 worst movies list.

Avatar is more pocahontas, though i can see the dances with wolves influences as well. It was cool for about 15 minutes with the effects, but then the lack of real character development or depth mixed with a poor plot and script really killed it for me.
I don't bask DK to be cool, if that was the case I wouldn't have said how much I hated it upon leaving the theatre, especially after anticipating the movie for quite some time.

I thought it was a good movie....When I think of worst blockbuster of all time, this comes to mind:
A big-budget pirate film that was released around Christmas of 1995. With an estimated budget of around $115 million, not only did it underperform by pulling in a mere $10 million during its ENTIRE theatrical run, It holds the Guinness World Record for being the biggest financial disaster released. Plus, it also bankrupted Carloco Pictures, a studio once famous for making huge hits such as Total Recall, Terminator 2 and the first three Rambo films.
EDIT: I know the TC is asking for a worst summer film, that would be Jonah Hex.
Inception was a fun way to spend an afternoon and was reasonably well made, but it was pretty lacking in the characterization department and was pretty silly in many ways. I mean, dream security guards? Really? And the dreams didn't look like dreams. As one reviewer said, dreams don't look that stiff and tight-assed.
I'm still pretty amazed that some people thought it was the greatest of all time.

Well your certainly entitled to your opinion, although I disagree with them (exepth the part about Inception, I didn't enjoy that too much either. Thought it was so so)
AS for Pirates....I did think the 4th one was the best, but I still enjoyed all the others too and I enjoy going to the theater whenever a new one comes out. Great movies IMO

Meh, I enjoyed that movie. Pretty lame how it only raked in $10 million considering its budget. When I think of worst blockbuster of all time, this comes to mind:

The Lost World. A Tyrannosaurus loose in L.A.? Really, Spielberg? Really?lowe0
That one was pretty bad. The worst part for me is when a bunch of mercenaries decide they'd rather listen to an ecoterrorist (Vince Vaughn) who got a bunch of them killed rather than the guy who pays their checks.

It's one of those movies i've seen before, but I can't remember a thing about it for the life of me. The first two Rush Hour films were the same way for me as well.

That's actually not true as the Carloco had already filed for bankruptcy on 11/22/1995 a month before Cutthroat Island was even released to the theatres so even if it performed well it would have only helped the company to settle some of their financies. But sadly folks have always targeted this film instead of the parade of failures that came before such as Showgirls because it was their last official release and thus became the blame for their financial downfall.

I thought Showgirls was produced exclusively by MGM. Guess not. Shows what I know...which isn't much. :oops:I thought Showgirls was produced exclusively by MGM. Guess not. Shows what I know...which isn't much.

Well perhaps if you island folks would consider wearing some proper long pants once in a while you'd remember these things! :P
But pshaw on your comedic self-deprecating statements! I only know such things as I have rather grown fond of Cutthroat Island over the years and so have to deal with that bit of Wikipedia misinformation from time to time. Not that it really matters I s'pose as it's just a silly little adventure film.
Was Van Helsing a summer blockluster? If so, that.
GreySeal9
I liked van helsing....
Sure the plot was a mess
,but the setting/art styIe/aesthetics were awesome, had interesting characters, and it had a machine crossbow:D
Loved how they handled Frankenstein and his monster
The Lion King and E.T. Both of these movies were nothing but poorly directed, filled to the brim with stupid characters, and overly sentimental and family friendly. I guess nostalgia clouds minds when it comes to proper judgement.TheFallenDemon
I never knew Ahmadinejad had a GS acount.....

Why is it when that not liking Avatar and The Dark Knight makes me someone who doesn't like movies? You're not the first to say this, but it seems like a lot of people hold these two movies higher than others. I just didn't like POTC 2 and 3 because they were substantially worse than the 1st, which was very good, and the 4th one brought the series back in line with the 1st. I don't think I'm being overly cynical for not liking four movies.
Recently, there really haven't been many movies that have amazed me. The top recent ones I can think of off the top of my head are Black Swan, Cowboys and Aliens (a blockbuster that was very entertaining), Toy Story 3, Shutter Island, and Harry Potter and the deathly hollows parts 1 and 2. Other than that we've sort of been in the midst of a lot of bad films. The one that looked like it could've been interesting was Another Earth, until the trailer revealed it's a perfect sci-fi setup that doesn't even try to be sci-fi. Oh, Easy A and No Strings Attached were also pretty good.

Exactly, The Lion King is arguably Disney's best film and E.T. is a fantastic movie.
In a summer that gave us "Aliens," "The Fly," "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Big Trouble In Little China" and "Karate Kid II" (which I felt was better than the first one), this movie stuck out like a fly turd in a sugar bowl.

I forgot all about this one. The animatronics for Howard were just crappy beyond words.
transformers 3 and spiderman 3
since people are bring up pirates i'd like to throw in my 2 cents
I'd say the 1st is a classic. the 2nd is more enjoyable but it doesn't have the "it starte it all" factor the 3rd one had a rediculous story but was still enjoyable not as much as the1st 2. I really didn't like 4- the story wasfine but it wasn't nearly as funny as the others

I think it was supposed to be. It opened during the summer of '86, and had George Lucas as producer, so I imagine the studio had high hopes. Instead, it barely broke even.Avatar, I have it in my top 5 worst movies list.

THANK YOU! Christian Bale was so boring as Bruce Wayne, It should have been an Anti-Hero film.
Avatar...which is basically Dances With Wolves meets Ferngully. Nice to look at..but that's where the positive ends.
All the POTC movies are bad imo. Overrated, and without a doubt ruined my favorite theme ride.
Batman and Robin was pretty terrible, as was Transformers 2, as was 2012, all of the Twilight films, and of course, Indiana Jones 4.
I could go on..but it's all pretty subjective, isn't it? Who cares?
