What's the worst job you ever had and why? What's the best story you have from that job?

Mine would probably be McDonalds  (crappy fast-food job). One night I was at work on Drive-Thru our front counter was robbed at gunpoint while I took a police officer's order in the drive-thru. Needless to say, swift justice was had.

Fluffer.

No, it was working in a mill.  Nothing worse than sorting boards all day in 115 degree heat.  On the exciting days I got to glue them together!  Best day was when I went to the bathroom for 2 hours and slept in the stall, no one even noticed!  You feel really important when you can disappear for 2 hours and no one notices!

Loading delivery trucks for UPS, which if you worked for them, you found out it stands for Under Paid Slaves.

Nice!  I had a shop-lifter steal one of my cameras right in front of an off-duty officer.  We both tackled him.  The funny part was that the officer knew him by his first and last name because he had arrested him before!

The cop asked, "Didn't you recognize me before you grabbed that camera?"

Thief, "Yeah, but I didn't know from where."

You'd think you would remember that face!

The only job I ever had was as a lab assistant. At first this sounded cool, I'd get to help chemists do cool stuff, play with matter, be like a god! But it seems that they mostly needed assistance in paper-work, they'd do the fun part, then let me punch in all the numbers into Excel, do all the tedius calculations and create the annoying graphs. Then they'd ask for miniscule changes that were completely un-needed and resulted in identical graphs. Fun. If my current college course goes well, I'll hopefully get a more enjoyable job.

As tempted I am to make a sick joke out of the thread title, I'm going to retain my dignity and just say that I've only ever had one job, which was working in a video game shop. So technically, that's the best and worse I guess. :P

My worst is telephone sales rep (aka telemarketer).  I never thought a job so easy would be so crappy.  The sad thing is the people that yell at you, and make smart ass remarks are actually your best calls of the day (I would pray that the next guy would cuss me out).  The worst are the people that can't hear you well or force you to say everything back to them (for your future referance).  The crappy thing is you can't really find anything to really pass the time.  Most jobs I can work harder, read something, or sneak out, to pass the time but with TSR you can't do anything but read the script until it's etched into your brain.

My boss was also a cross dresser at work.  The sad thing is he was really bad at it but only a handful of people ever figured it out.  His name was Da 've for #$%@'s sake (Dave with an accent).

Moving clothing off one truck, and moving it around on some big rail system, only to end loading the clothing on another truck.

The place was in the middle of nowhere, and the hours were 8am till 7pm :(

Pizza Hut. Hands down, worst ever. Got treated so bad I resigned and threatened them with legal action for abuse. Settled out of court. Not much, but enough. If it had been in America, probably would've been a lot more...

Sunday Paper round. Seriously, getting up early on Sunday carrying papers twice the size of weekday versions all the way round my town (which is basically hills :x) in the middle of winter was not fun.

My worst job was working for an insurance broker. Most of the clients had really bad credit and the company took advantage of that in it's terms and conditions. I'll always remember some of the complaints I got: One customer wanted to cancel his policy three days after because he'd found a cheaper policy (not really surprised he'd found a cheaper one, it wasn't hard). When I told him he'd have to pay the full policy amount he went nuts. I then asked him if he'd signed the terms and conditions form that was faxed to the car dealer he said. So I told him that with his signature he was bound by the terms and conditions on the form which included payment of 100% of the policy if you cancel your policy within the first two months. Another customer went nuts when his cover note didn't arrive on the Monday. I said it would be sent out in the post on Saturday evening and he said it should have be delivered. No post on Saturday evening so how's that my fault!
