I have yet to see Rec, but I don't like The Ring much.

I don't think it matters what version you watch as they were relased about a year apart, but i found the American one to be alot gorier and the characters more likeable.

I recommend you watch it, it's a cross between Dawn of the Dead (zombies) and Cloverfield (in terms of filming).

Now I really want to see it, and I love Cloverfield, so if it's like that then I'll like it.:D

Yeah, I like that one a lot, but there's only a few horror remakes I like, most like over 90% just suck though.:P

What... The... Bleeding... Lord President of Gallifrey...[QUOTE="MAILER_DAEMON"] Apparently they're also doing an English language remake of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and Daniel Craig is going to be playing Blomkvist...

What.. The... Sodding.. Jack Harkness..[QUOTE="Jazz_Fan"] Indeed, and it will be directed by David Fincher. I have not seen the original and I am not aware if the remake will do the whole trilogy... The probably will.

They'll ruin the suspense by making it English. Also, I'm going to have to correct you, it's not a trilogy :3 At least not by the books, there was supposed to be written 10, but Stieg Larsson sadly passed away before the third book was finished. I heard rumours that there will be a fourth book written over the manuscript he half-finished before the third book, so hopefully there'll be a fourth movie as well :3

the evangelion movie remakes.

they're not objectively the worst remakes i've ever seen but the removal of much of the emotional intricacies and struggling was a big disappointment as they were the aspects that drove the series since evangelion is a character driven show.

What about War of the Worlds? Not exactly a remake, but Jesus x.x

The War of The Worlds wasn't great, but it's nowhere near the level of trite that TDTESS reaches.

Perfectly agreed. I couldn't believe how unexciting they made The Day the Earth Stood still, the original was more exciting and intense, even with it's 1950's special effects. At least War of the Worlds was a decent thrill ride, even with its gaping plot holes and some annoying characters, but Spielberg's direction saved it. In fact, five years later, the visual effects are still some of the most realistic looking around.

The ending sucked the big (chimp) one. It couldn't lay a pinky on the original's legendary, Twilight Zone-level twist.

Yeah, I like Sean Bean, but he can't even compete with Rutger Hauer's level of creepiness. It was cringe-worthy when they started playing that song (think it was Nine-Inch-Nails, sorry can't remember) when he was killing those cops in that car chase. Then again, I'm pretty sure Michael Bay actually had a hand in the movie, so what do you expect right?

Yeah the ending was retarded, but the movie had some really cool scenes and really well done special effects on all the apes. Certainly not Tim Burton's best though, I'll agree.

We all know the feeling, your favourite movie/television show is being remade and renewed. You're happy as a clam until you watch the thing.

Worst remakes I know of:

Life on Mars - Sam Tyler will always be John Simm, and not the American who thinks he's as good an actor as Mr. Simm. Boo, America!

The Office - Ricky Gervais deserves respect, but The Office with professional unfunny man Steve Carrell is an abomination x.x

The Wickerman - One single sentence to describe this will be enough; How'd it get burned!

Now, list yours!

Deihjan
I actually liked the American Life on Mars to an extent. Haven't seen the British show though. As for The Office, I think the American show was pretty good. There's a reason it's still an ongoing show. As for The Wickerman, no doubt in my mind it's one of the worst there. In terms of other remakes, I'm having trouble thinking of some, maybe Day of the Dead.

The man was brilliant, and the worst part about the unfinished works is that by the time of his death, he hadn't married his lover/partner, so now his family and she are in trial-battles for the rights to his works and his millions. Silly swedish laws and everything, his partner isn't allowed to get anything that's from his will, because they never married. Larsson was on a constant run because of his work (Much like Blomkvist in his books, he too wrote rather criminalizing stuff about other people, for which his head got hunted so to speak)

I've only seen very few episodes of the British Life on Mars, but Sam Tyler will never be the same when acted by the American guy. I guess The Office is a success, but I still detest Steve Carrell.

Planet Of The Apes remake was awesome and I loved it. What pissed me off is how it ended and then Burton didn't even plan or make a sequel ever and the film was realeased almost 13 years ago if not more. You get all these 2s, 3s, and 4s that aren't needed and the one film that actually warrants a sequel and you ignore it? Good job Timmy. Bravo.

Bit like how I felt about Planet of the Apes. Personally I didn't know it was a remake until this thread, but I guess it just proves my ignorance. Besides Mark Wahlberg I didn't think it was so horrible, maybe the patriotic feel it had to it, but eh, that's how I feel about most american movies (generalizing a lot here)[QUOTE="Yagr_Zero"]Well technically, the American guy is Irish I believe :P. But he's still an American in the show, no? :P I've seen a couple of episodes of the American Office, and it feels like sleeping on a nail-mattress.

That may be true in the show, but not the actor :P. I think Kath and Kim is a terrible remake of the Aussie original.

Then this is the one point where we'll agree. Its kind of closed minded to write off all american tv and movies just because they're well...american. You seem to love anything british though which is kinda biased.

I don't watch remakes too often and when I do, I've never even seen the original. But I did see a movie one time called "Taxi", apparantly that's a remake and it's also a very stupid comedy with Queen Latifah, god was it horrible. Can't say how it fares to the original, but if it's anything like this movie, it's a down right failure as well. Also, Quarantine which is a remake of Rec. in a way is considerably worse than the original.

I generalize a lot, but for the most I'm quite right, at least according to my own tastes. So, my tastes say I'm the winner here :P But it's a personal opinion, and sure, I am quite biased, but so are many other people. And I never said I would never ever watch american telly, I just said that most of the stuff I have indeed watched was quite bad. Prove to me there's one show that hasn't become rubbish at one point. I used to watch Lost, and I loved it. Season three and something weird as happens. I never watched it again. 24 I watched the three first seasons of, and I admit I LOVED the first two seasons, but it became utter *bleep* after that. I watch two and a half men and How I met your mother, and I'm just waiting to see how the writers/the channels they broadcast on can ruin those shows..

Why try when it seems you'll just write them off anyways? I could do the same with british television but I don't.
