My wife and I just got through watching the series finale to ROME. And, I would give it a 7.5 out of 10, with 10 being the best, as far as series finales go.

And, this got me to thinking. What is the worst series finale? I really hated the finales of The Sopranos and Seinfeld.

What's your pix?
They are arrested and convicted of "criminal negligence" (i.e. they saw a crime happening and didn't do anything about it), and go to jail. The last scene is them sitting in jail talking :P.
I liked Rome's finale. It paved the way into the Augustus era. They did they best they could do, discovering they were getting cancelled mid-season.

Usually when a series has a bad ending it's because the production crew was given short notice of the cancellation. The last episode Fururama is an appropriate example of this.

Yep this is the winner.

I hope you guys realize that Tony or w.e the main Character was in previous episode had a conversation with somebody about what he thought happened when you died and he replied with "It just goes black" or to some sort... I remember my siblings talking about this when it was over...So its to more importance then just "BOOM BLACK, WHO KNOWZ WHAT HAPPENED!?!?!"

I am one of the few individuals who actually thought the ending to the Sopranos was genius. I'd have to say Seinfeld was the worst TV series finale. For one of the greatest comedies of all time to go out on such a low note is saddening.

But we didn't know that back then. Nor did the producers. As far as anyone was concerned that was the end.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

that 70's show finale was perfect, it ended the decade, eric came home, and the final shot was of the basement where they had spent their teenage years and the decade, all of them upstairs for midnight, just the empty room like they were leaving forever to go into the eighties and the rest of their adult lives.

It ended the series and had a lot of symbolism opposed to the seinfeld finale which was "they got what they deserved because they were self absorbed" REALLY,it took that many seasons to learn that? Cmon.

EDIT-Forgot to put a spoiler warning.

They should have stopped then I agree....but they were contractualy obligated for one more year, and topher left for movies(Venom among other things) but they did a decent job considering the position they were in.

That's alsao what I was thinking when I first saw this topic.

Though to be fair, Seinfeld gets credit for at least getting me to watch long enough to see the series finale. With most series, I just get tired of them and stop watching before the series gets cancelled.

OMFG!!! I was going to say the exact same thing! I thought I was the only one who watched that show! To be honest, the show started going downhill when it tried to compete with X-Files. Its was a good show, then it got into convoluted conspiracies that made absolutely no sense and were a chore to watch. Convoluted mysteries worked in the X-Files because thats what the entire show was about, but in the case of The Pretender, it just felt so cheap and tacked on. And yes, the finale was pretty crappy as were the 2 movies released after. The whole deal with the woman's mother was so boring. I didn't give a flying taco about that entire plot line :x

i dont see what all the hate is towards the Seinfeld ending, it wasnt mind blowing but it ended the series enough so it would end if that makes sense.

For those who have seen the that 70's show finale you know what i mean when i say its bad. The whole last season was pretty bad since Ashton Kutcher (Kelso) left bout 4 episodes in and Topher Grace (Eric) wasnt in the season at all. The new character was really bad and fez isnt a good main.

remeber Kelso left bout 4 episodes in, an in my above post i explain a bit. It was pretty bad cause it didnt tie up any loose ends at all and was jsut really annoying. after sitting through the last season which was really bad they didnt even make a decent finale.

I thought the Friends finale was a complete joke. The best of all-time is Six Feet Under. That "Breathe Me" song fits it perfectly. I really do miss that show. So sad they had to end it.

God....I despise friends. It was just so boring and annoying, maybe I wasnt part of the core demographic or something, but that show sucked...ALOT. And it had the terrible side effect of making Jennifer Aniston popular. Now we have to deal with her acting the same character in every single movie she is in. Friends fans should just let her career die for the sake of the rest of the world. Its already on life support, only you guys are keeping it alive :x To me Friends is what I like to call whitesplotation (the white version of blaxploitation) because I can honestly say that in my 21 years of life, I have never run into a single black person man, woman or child who liked friends.

I've yet to see any series finale to give me closure I guess Fresh Prince of Bel Air since they eased us out gradually. It ended well and with a good laugh. The worst ending is Oz though, kill everyone and leave it at a cliffhanger...great.

I don't understand all the hate for the Sopranos ending.. Honestly, what did you expect? A grand, dramatic finale? Since when was the Sopranos this type of series. Many scenes in the Sopranos have deeper meaning, varying in apparentness. I think it wouldn't have befitted the show at all had there been some conclusive ending (for example Tony dying). The subtlety and realism of the series is continued towards the end because of the ambiguous open ending.

Seinfeld and Roseanne had horrible, unfunny endings.
