So, whom do you guys think was the worst U.S. president in history?
EDIT: Please do not include Barack Obama, as he has not been president long enough to be judged properly.

I've not been alive to witness the results of the other presidents first-hand, so I have to say Bush.jointedAnd that's the only reason anyone should vote for him. If you look at what some of the other presidents have done, Bush isn't nearly as bad in comparison. He's definately the worst in my lifetime, however.
didn't Andrew Johnson love killing, i mean duelling people?Paladin_King
You're thinking of Andrew Jackson ;).
[QUOTE="Stevo_the_gamer"]Anyone who doesn't pick James Buchanan needs to read up on US History. :|St_JimmyXI can think of 5 presidents just as bad as Buchanan, maybe you need to pick up a history book. So you could name five other Presidents who were just as bad as him? I do believe no one can top his "great" accomplishments by refusing to challenge either the spread of slavery or the growing bloc of states that became the Confederacy -- which lead to the most devastating war in American history, mind you.
George Bush shouldnt even be on that list.St_JimmyX
yes he left the country in such a great way they should make room for him on Mt. Rushmore:roll:
[QUOTE="lilburtonboy748"]No FDR?!? BOOOchessmaster1989
*confused* joke post?
I believe so..or hope so..he is debating..ly I guess, the best president we have had. Can anyone give a quick summary of the bad/good Buchanan and Harding have done...I haven't heard much of them, though I know a few here think that Harding is the worst, so I would like to judge for myself before voting Bush :P[QUOTE="Paladin_King"]didn't Andrew Johnson love killing, i mean duelling people?chessmaster1989

Although Buchanan could of made an effort, i doubt it would of made much of a difference, except delaying the conflict even further.

Yeah I've never quite grasped why Buchanan gets the shaft for not addressing the split that slavery was (and had long since) caused. It is not as if he caused the issue and it was suddenly was a problem under his administration and he could have wrapped it up in a tiny bow if he had just done so...
Why is he one of the best presidents we have ever had? lilburtonboy748
Well first all of, he got the US out of the worst depression ever seen. He made many reforms, made a lot of public works for those unemployed, he kept us isolated from WW2 as long as possible, though I guess pearl harbor wouldn't have happened if he hadn't waited so long, but seeing as you are a pacifist, I guess that is alright to you..I can't think of another president better, maybe except Lincoln.

Wrong. He made the depression worse, he didn't fix it.[QUOTE="lilburtonboy748"]

To be blunt, FDR did not get us out of the Depression-WWII did. You can argue that FDR did a good job, though, of keeping the country together during the GD/WWII.

Very true ;).
I read in a book that Jackson killed 12 people or so in duals alone...that's obviously Eastwood's role model.Gotta go with W. as the worst. His administration was responsible for violating every one of the first 10 ammendments of the constitution except the 3rd. Repealled posse commetatus act, illegally spied on his own citizenry, illegally kidnapped and detained citizens and foreign nationals, ignored the right of habeas corpus. Ignored repeated warnings about an immenent attack on the US. Never pursued the guy responsible, let that guy's family members fly out of the US. Refused to conduct any meaningful investigation as to how the attack could have happened. Destroyed evidence. Invaded a nation with no links to the attack in contravention to US and international law. Removed goverment oversight into financial and industrial regulations, which led to what may be the worst economic crisis the US has ever faced. Basically did to the US what 2 world wars did to the UK. ENjoy the fade into obscurity, kids! Thanks George.
I'd say 2nd worst was Grant, but he's not on your list of choices.

What? You are the first person to ever agree with me on GS about the depression.maybe Nixon with the watergate scandelleonard88Watergate doesn't even begin to compare to the Patriot Act. The only difference is that the Patriot Act was made legal and done on an insanely larger scale.

I still disagree with you on FDR's performance during the GD-I think that he at the very least held together morale, and probably helped some, too.
That said, he did not pull us out of the Depression.

Very true. Actually, Nixon wasn't a terrible president (for domestic policy, at least; his foreign policy was not that great); he just turned out to be a crook :P.
