Would you be dissapointed if you found out your son/ daughter was gay?

Our conversation would be something like this: "How could you do this to us?! Do you have any idea what this'll mean for you? Your other father will hear of this. :x"

Theokhoth

Dont forget "I taught you better than this" :P

Or the best of them all: "Who the hell are you?"

Because, you see, I don't plan on having children. Ever. :|

What if someone steals your stuff and uses it to make a baby :o

Hahaha. And then one day you see a kid on the street and you're like: " Hey! You look familiar!:P"

[QUOTE="Ace_WondersX"] Cause there's something wrong with wanting to pass on your genetics to another generation.Ace_WondersX

Not acknowledging an adopted child in favor of some Darwinistic naturalism is quite sick.

You can love and take care of an adopted child, but when you get down the the basics it's not your kid, it's not your offspring.

It's your kid in every conceivable sense of the word except the naturalistic sense. Basing whether or not you should accept a kid on genetics is an incredibly shallow view.

Shallow? It's human nature. I personally want a kid that has me and my wife's genetics and so do most people. Who are you to say that it's wrong to want so?

If I had only one child I would be because I want grandchildren

robobie

Not trying to be rude or anything, but isn't that a bit selfish? I wouldn't mind if my son/daughter was gay If that's the choice they want to make, then me, being the parent should be able to respect that.

No, it isn't human nature. Human nature is caring regardless. Humans have gone far beyond Darwinistic standards of what is good and okay; by your reasoning, racism is fine, genocide is fine, experimentation on humans is fine, so long as it's all about the right genetics. Humans (and human nature) are beyond that.

You can want your own children, but if you shun adopted children based on something as irrelevant as genetics, then it is shallow and morally reprehensible. Natural =/= right.

Human nature is caring for any child? Even in adoption is darwinistic, because people pick kids based on reasons thatthey think the kid is better than the other kidsor they like that kid better than the others, they don't go to the adoption agency and take the first kid that they offer them.

Look at all of these nice and wonderful posts saying "no I wouldn't be dissapointed, he/she is my kid after all!" I guess I can see that point of view, well since I haven't seen any post yet that said the oppisite let me be the first! I would be friggin pissed. Hmm other then that, I would accept she/he though they are my kids right? Though I would send them to lots of theraphy though, either that or they get cut from the trust fund more for the "other" kids I guess... :)

at first if either one of my sons were to come out of course there would be a little dissapointment....even when they are young I think about them growing up...marrying and having children...(with a woman)....but it's not something I would show...and I would be very supportive.....but as a parent you can't help but feel a twinge of dissapointment.....

I'd be disappointed. I'd like grandkids and maybe even do family gatherings for holidays, but if he/she was gay they probably wouldn't be accepted by my more conservative relatives. I'd still talk and care for them, but I wouldn't foresee a strong, lasting family relationship with them. I don't have anything against gay people, but I know they receive a lot of hate and discrimination; I've been through racial discrimination, my kids going through that and sexual discrimination wouldn't let me sleep easy.

Are you kidding me? I would love to hear my daughter is a lesbian. What father wants to deal with chasing guys out of the house, unwanted teen pregnancy, and all the other crap that comes along with raising a teen age girl. Her dating only girls would be a relief.

[QUOTE="DrSponge"]I wish I never came in these type of threads. I just get disgusted at the majority of the posters. ElGreco88

Because they have a different opinion? I only get disgusted when ppl are narrow-minded and get rude at other ppl's beliefs. If their manners are proper and try to express their opinion in a nice way then I don't care if they agree with me or not. I can't MAKE everybody agree with what I'm saying. Noone can...

Please give me a good reason for someone to be disappointed in their own child because of their SEXUALITY. Someone that dislikes their child due to something completely out of their control, disgust me.

Give 'im a smack across the face! That'll get 'im straight. Either that or throwing him out of your house. I hear that works wonders also.

No. My brother is a bisexual, transexual furry who complains about "not being born in the right body". If I have no problem with that, I don't think I'd have a problem with one of my offspring being homosexual. You know why? Because it's nothing to be ashamed of.

evidence that proves homosexuality is a lifestyle choice? Or do you like just being ignorant?

ignorant in what? i dont believe anyone is born with the mindset of being attracted to the same sex, God didnt make us this way. as Homosexulaity has become more accepted you see more people coming out which i presume is a choice on their part.

you do know there has been studies on animals in the wild with homosexuality. if what you say is accurate explain how a animal choses a same sex (male) partner

People seem to assume gay people can't have children which is confusing to me? I mean biologically a gay couple can't, but there's such a thing as adoption, as well as other methods. Just because you're children are gay doesn't mean you won't have grandchildren, so stop using that as an excuse.

Cactus_Matt

I have nothing against gay people but tell the truth. If you had gay parents, do you not think that people would make fun of you for it. I don't think it's fair on the child of a gay couple if they have to get made fun of.

Then we should teach people through education to not make fun of such things, not eradicate homosexuality because some people just can't "digest" it. ;)

So, because my children might get made fun of in school, (if they even attend public school) I am to forfeit my right/dream of being a mother?

Yeah, not so much.

I'm sure bullying is likely to occur, but I would challenge it every chance I get with the school and the parents of those bullying my child. Plus, by the time I do start a family, hopefully even young kids might be more tolerant of such a thing. Doubt it will be half as bad for my kid(s) going through school than it was for me. Homosexuality is becoming increasingly accepted, even by young people, might not be a big deal at all in a decade or less.

Why is it natural to be disappointed?

And, honestly, on what grounds do you base your claim that people who voted no are lying? I'm heterosexual, and, quite frankly, when and if I do get married, I don't really care what sexual orientation my children are.

[QUOTE="chessmaster1989"]Wow at the 53 people who voted yes...super_mario_128
Eh? It's only natural for them to be disappointed. I'm sure most of the people voted 'no' are lying. Who doesn't want grandchildren?

I couldn't care less about grandchildren.

If I'm honest I would be a little, I couldn't help it, but that wouldn't stop be loving and supporting any less than I would otherwise. I have alot of gay friends and I know all of them have had to overcome struggles and prejudices and its not an easy thing to face when growing up.

um you do know my older brother is gay right? so before you make a statement saying the people who voted no are lying do some research on fellow gs members before you state a fabrication

Right, so you know what your parents feel deep down right?

Look, buddy, I'm pretty sure that Tazz knows much better than you how his parents feel, so why don't you just shut it?

Homosexual people can start families as well, might not be blood relation, but that doesn't make someone any less of a grandchild.

[QUOTE="Teenaged"]Then we should teach people through education to not make fun of such things, not eradicate homosexuality because some people just can't "digest" it. ;)super_mario_128
He never said anything about 'eradicating homosexuality.'

I never said he did. I was just making a point. Sorry if it seemed that way (maybe the wink emoticon...) :P

Why is it natural to be disappointed?

And, honestly, on what grounds do you base your claim that people who voted no are lying? I'm heterosexual, and, quite frankly, when and if I do get married, I don't really care what sexual orientation my children are.

My grounds on making that claim are that people don't know how they'd react in such a situation, and just say 'no' because they don't think about it. I meant 'some people' rather than 'most people', though.

Oh I'm sure he does. I don't think he can read their minds, however. And try being less hostile next time...
