I have no issue with switching to the next form of power plant for my car. I DO have a problem with ugly, fruity looking space pods. Why can't they start putting hybrid or electric engines in NORMAL LOOKING CARS? I don't see why they keep trying to force feed us cars the size of a shoe box. Put hybrid/electric engines in normal cars and they will sell. :)
Plenty of 'normal' cars come in hybrid versions. You don't necessarily have to get a Prius. Also, the electric Chevy Volt isn't bad looking:I have no issue with switching to the next form of power plant for my car. I DO have a problem with ugly, fruity looking space pods. Sorry, I linked to an old model: (this one is in production)
Sure, I would. NOt only would I not buy gas, but I'd also get a nice tax break from the govt :)
But I have a company SUV ( '07 Ford Sport Trac V8 ) that I use for both business & personal use. And I use the truck bed regularly. So, I'd need an electric truck for my needs.
You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadilac El Dorado Convertible, HOT PINK, with whale skin hub caps, all leather cow interior and BIG BROWN BABY SEAL EYES FOR HEAD LIGHTS, YEAH! And I'm gonna drive around in that baby, at 115 miles per hour, getting one mile per gallon, sucking down quarter pounder cheeseburgers in the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers.

it's not the style Rikusaki it's the size...I don't need a sports car or something that looks cool....I'm not overcompensating for anything..;)..I just need something that doesn't make me feel like I'm gonna split it in half when I get in...Omni-Slash
Oh, alright. I gotcha! I gotcha by the load, maann!
Anyway, I love the Tesla Roadster.
but wont electric cars just lower demand for oil making it cheaper and just hike the price for coal and electricity? i dont think i want to get electrocuted if i wash my car thanks :Pmonkeyd_93This is what a lot of folks don't think about. If everything goes electric, is it going to cost us $50 to watch TV? Or $25 or charge a cell phone?
Possibly the greatest song ever. :lol:You know what I'm gonna do? That car looks normal to me.LosDaddieMe too. I don't see what's wrong with it. Much better than a Prius.

Everything looks better than a prius. And I'm talking GOOD cars too, not just slightly more normal cars. That Chevy will be their typical cheap plastic crap ride. Lets some some luxury cars with a real hybrid. Not like the one Lexus did that only got 1mpg better.
For me its all about being more efficient with my money. I have 2 criteria:
1) The car itself cannot cost so much more that it would offset any savings that I would get from a combustion car.
2) The actual money I pay for the electricity cannot cost more than the gas I would buy for a combustion car.
Also there are safety issues. Those cars have to be light weight, thus vulnerable to being crushed by a typical car.

I'm sure our power plants & grids would improve to the point where we won't be charged insane prices.
There really hasn't been any of that in this thread yet... at least until you came in, right?BTW, does anybody smell the smug?

Wouldn't the overall increase in demand of coal increase the price? Edision would have us by the balls.

It needs to improve to the point where there is NO increase. This would require more nuclear plants.[QUOTE="LosDaddie"]

Only to primative coal plants. Most are nuclear and run off themselves.[QUOTE="LosDaddie"]

Possibly. But since the vast majority of the coal we use comes from the USA, I see that as a plus.
Also, you guysassuming the USA doesn't build more nuclear plants to generate electricity. Or build new wind farms.

You guys better go nuclear. The beauty of it is it creates it's own unlimited power. If things are going to be fueled by electricity, nuclear is the only way to go.No. 100miles doesn't fit my family's needs. We go on road trips every other year or so, so with an electric car we would have to fly and lose more money.

The enriched uranium rods do eventually stop releasing neutrons. (I think it's neutrons, it has been a while since I studied physics)
