Assuming it was no expensive to run or buy than a normal car, and had a range 100 miles between charges, would you opt out of gasoline and go electric? As for those scared that it might look weird, there are plenty of normal-looking electric cars, like the MINI E and the Tesla Roadster.

Depends, really. While 100 miles is nice, how long would the charges take? We have a house that is 2 hours away (just about 100 miles, actually) and if I wasn't able to make it there in one charge, forget it.

Can't really... live in an apartment with no place to install a charger. Also, they are all automatic trannys, which I hate.

I have no issue with switching to the next form of power plant for my car. I DO have a problem with ugly, fruity looking space pods. Why can't they start putting hybrid or electric engines in NORMAL LOOKING CARS? I don't see why they keep trying to force feed us cars the size of a shoe box. Put hybrid/electric engines in normal cars and they will sell. :)

I would probably only use it for going around town, but yes.

How long does it take to charge it back up again, though?

Plenty of 'normal' cars come in hybrid versions. You don't necessarily have to get a Prius. Also, the electric Chevy Volt isn't bad looking:

Only if they begin to look better. I don't own a car now and probably won't for a few years, but until these things become more pleasant on the eyes, I'm going to stay away. Where's my Ferrari plug in/hybrid?

Sure, I would. NOt only would I not buy gas, but I'd also get a nice tax break from the govt :)

But I have a company SUV ( '07 Ford Sport Trac V8 ) that I use for both business & personal use. And I use the truck bed regularly. So, I'd need an electric truck for my needs.

You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna get myself a 1967 Cadilac El Dorado Convertible, HOT PINK, with whale skin hub caps, all leather cow interior and BIG BROWN BABY SEAL EYES FOR HEAD LIGHTS, YEAH! And I'm gonna drive around in that baby, at 115 miles per hour, getting one mile per gallon, sucking down quarter pounder cheeseburgers in the old fashioned non-biodegradable styrofoam containers.

Chevy's in wheel motors are amazing. A few years ago, they showed off an electric S-10 that SMOKED a Camaro SS.... So yes, when this tech makes it to the market, I would definitely consider buying one...

Everything looks better than a prius. And I'm talking GOOD cars too, not just slightly more normal cars. That Chevy will be their typical cheap plastic crap ride. Lets some some luxury cars with a real hybrid. Not like the one Lexus did that only got 1mpg better.

For me its all about being more efficient with my money. I have 2 criteria:

1) The car itself cannot cost so much more that it would offset any savings that I would get from a combustion car.

2) The actual money I pay for the electricity cannot cost more than the gas I would buy for a combustion car.

Also there are safety issues. Those cars have to be light weight, thus vulnerable to being crushed by a typical car.

No unless the electricity was made through green messures. I would love to have a hydrogen car though. Even though its not perfect the fact that it only produces water is amazing and well worth my support.

It needs to improve to the point where there is NO increase. This would require more nuclear plants.

Possibly. But since the vast majority of the coal we use comes from the USA, I see that as a plus.

Also, you guysassuming the USA doesn't build more nuclear plants to generate electricity. Or build new wind farms.

You guys better go nuclear. The beauty of it is it creates it's own unlimited power. If things are going to be fueled by electricity, nuclear is the only way to go.

No. 100miles doesn't fit my family's needs. We go on road trips every other year or so, so with an electric car we would have to fly and lose more money.

Nuclear Power isn't unlimited. The enriched uranium rods do eventually stop releasing neutrons. (I think it's neutrons, it has been a while since I studied physics)

yes but occasionally i would still need a car that can go longer than 100 miles.. so i would have to keep my old car for long trips. :|
