If I liked the name enough and it had a deeper feeling to it, I may consider it. But it wouldn't be "Dovakiin".GazaAliEven for a lifetime supply of Bethesda games?

My Girlfriend said there was no way in hell she'd let me name our son Cloud(but with a K)...We decided on Karter.
Really only unless the name has any real basis in this world.
and the only name that comes to mind is "Tali" which is used by Jews and Arabs. Though an extremely rare name, that's where the name comes from. Or perhaps "Altair", again an extremely rare used name in the Arab world.
I would never name my kid say... Kratos, Sheik, or Lightning.
For the record. My sister is named after a dinosaur...
I was a toddler at the time and my folks couldn't decide what name to pick. I said "how about Triceratops?", and according to my folks i was talking about Sarah the Triceratops from Land Before Time movie.
and given that you hear "Sarah" in Tri-Cera-Tops. wala, that's how my little sister's name came to be.
I would never name my kid Dick Buttkiss. But it happens. >.>Really only unless the name has any real basis in this world.

I'd consider giving them a middle name.
Like William Visari Smith or whatever.
^This is one of the reasons I'd be an awful mother btw.
Well I do like the name Yuna...but I don't know. It would be weird to name a child after a game character.
What was the name you proposed?[QUOTE="Euaggelistes"]
In discussing possible names for children I mentioned the name of a video game character to my wife. She is a gamer too and thought the name would be great. I am relatively sure that the rest of our families would think the origin of the name would rule it out altogether. I was wondering what the general consensus among other gamers would be though. Do you think that video games could serve as an area of inspiration for selecting the name of a child or do you think that it is just a hobby and should be left at that? Would you consider naming a child after a video game character? If so, why, and if not, why not?

EDIT: While our two month old is named after yours truly, because of some of the cooing sounds he makes, one of his nicknames at the moment is Yoshi. (Thus the little Yoshi plush toy that will be in his stocking this year).
+10 rep points I'm naming mine after KratosI've always liked the name Colette for a girl, and I first became most familiar with that name wile playing Tales of Symphonia, so no, I'm not totally against naming kids after video game characters, just nothing to obvious.
