I heard Portugal is nice to visit, but so-so place to live. Not sure I'd want to move to a Mediterranean country in Europe right now, just seems a bit weird for some reason. Greece is broke, Italy is following, you got heaps of racism and bigotry against Africans and Arabs...

I do like the idea of living in Europe simply because you can visit all the other European countries.

As for my recommendation, since everyone else is providing theirs, I recommend San Luis Obispo, California, especially in the spring time:

@mrbojangles25: my wife is from a town not far from San Luis, it’s called Grover Beach, it’s actually part of the San Luis Obispo County.

Keep an eye on the sea surface temperatures off San Luis Obispo. If they're normal or below normal, you might see a lot more fog this summer. I am because we'll be passing through there this summer. We'll be taking Highway 101 from Santa Barbara all the way to the Bay Area.

Looks absolutely stunning! So of course I'd prefer to live here than rainy Scotland.

Maybe I was just unlucky. But, the majority of the time I was at the Central Coast, the beach was like this. He He. It only got worse headed south to Point Concepcion. It didn't get better until we hit Santa Barbara.

For those who like their summers to be in the 50's F and low 60's F with little sun, this place is for you. What's so nice about it is if you go to the other side of the coastal mountains, there's plenty of sun and 90 F temperatures.

Pismo Beach:

I would love to live in Vancouver B.C. if I was able to afford living there. Love the fact that it rains all the time and year round.

The marine fog and stratus are typical during late spring and through the summer when there are no major weather systems passing through. The clouds and fog come in and recede back based on the temperatures. It's almost like clockwork.

Look at Santa Maria which is just to the south of Pismo Beach. As a weather guy, I love it. ;) This one isn't that bad yet. There were times when the fog is so thick, I wouldn't be able to see the van.
