With this being Memorial day weekend and all, there are alot of war movies on TV. Do you ever wonder if you were put into WW1 or WW2 or any other of the big wars, if you'd survive through it? Or even what your mental state would be after?

I wouldn't have been allowed in anyway. Once you've gone down on a man, you immediately lose the ability to competently fire a weapon or something. Not that I'd want to be part of it.
knowing my hate for humanity id run in and start gunning down everyone and then i get shot and killed id like have a huge bomb like connected to my heart so when it stops kaboom
You or dave really need to change your sigs. I can't tell which is which 95% of the time. :(I'd better serve as a nurse or something, otherwise I'd die.

Not all troops are fighting like they showed in the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan. Some people go to war and survive without firing a single round. I knew Soldiers in Iraq who spent a year sitting behind a desk, playing video games, and drinking iced coffee.
Also, physical fitness isn't always the difference between life and death. You can put an NFL player on the battlefield and a bullet will kill him as fast as Steve Rogers pre-super serum. Physical fitness does not equal training, which is why fit guys fail basic while frail ones push through.
The real question is, would the war survive me?
Animatronic64
Lol how can anyone take you seriously with that avatar
No i'd probably just die as a conscripted soldier used as cannon fodder or something lame lol.
From about 20 to 37 years of age, YES...I was workingout, active, and a very competitive "losing is not an option" person..now? dealing with depression, anxiety, zero self worth, I would proabaly jump in the line of fire..
Probably. Considering much of surviving is luck based the chances are you will survive. It's still something I would rather avoid.
alot of it depends upon two things - guns and bullets. With this being Memorial day weekend and all, there are alot of war movies on TV. Do you ever wonder if you were put into WW1 or WW2 or any other of the big wars, if you'd survive through it? Or even what your mental state would be after?
Morphic
do you have alot of each? do many people you know have alot of both? if so you're chances of survival are increased greatly in many ways. hunting for food. self defense, attacking the enemy, repelling the enemy, fortified defenses, aambushing, sniping, militia forming. etc...
if you have an intelligent and compitent chain of command you had better follow orders or you'll be the first one dead and probably get everyone killed.I'm not stupid enough to blindly follow orders without question. So yes I'd survive a war.

just a friendly tip. no hate involved here!
I wouldn't have survived. Too much of a coward. Or maybe if I was highly trained in the military I would've been good. Mental state? Depressed, crazy, insane maybe.
I just graduated basic combat training (Army) a couple of weeks ago so I would like to imagine I could but I can't realistically say I know for sure I would survive.

There are several openly gay dudes living here in the barracks.
Yes, it is amazing how lethal bullets can be, even being a 500 pound 8 foot giant will not protect you from being killed or severely injured by bullets, you'd have to be in body armor and also wearing a bullet-proof helmet with a bullet-proof glass shield on the front of it. Even for body armor though, you're not safe from not only explosions, but isn't there also armor piercing bullets? Not all troops are fighting like they showed in the opening scene in Saving Private Ryan. What you just described is the Juggernaut armor from Modern Warfare. That doesn't exist in real life. The closest thing to it would probably be those bomb suits EOD uses while they attempt to diffuse bombs but they're not bullet proof either.
The purpose of body armor is to reduce injury and deflect small-arms. Body armor doesn't always stop all rounds and bullet-proof face shields would be too heavy for anybody to wear.

Think of combat like football and your coach as your sergeant. If you're a rookie you probably want to listen to your experienced coach to be successful, otherwise you may fall on your face. Some of the people in charge of you may have more time in the military than you have on the planet.
Besides, you are required to disobey illegal orders. But if you willingly disobey a legal order you can court-martialed. Assuming your disobedience doesn't get you killed (Private don't go into that room it hasn't been cleared...F OFF SARGE....BOOM! Head gets blown off by insurgent hiding in room).
