Like, instead of her changing her sirname to yours would you change yours to hers?
I would, my name's awful. I mean, who the hell has the sirname "Lawless"?

No i wouldn't.
Islamically speaking though, from what i understand. last names stay with the persons. wife always keeps her last name, and the husband always keeps his. children however take on the father's last name.
so last names are passed down patrilineally.
For sake of ease, families are usually known by the husbands last name.
Now i'm sure some peopel got a beef with that, and think it should be the other way around or something else. that's cool i guess. It is after just a name, much more important issue to get worked up about and you don't have to follow every damn tradition either.
No way in hell. If she didn't want to take my name, I guess that's fine but there is a line, and that crosses it.
I never knew my father at all.
So if she wanted to keep her name or whatever, I'd be like "sure why not, I like you more anyhow" :P
If your name was Ronald maybeDepends on the name.
I think what I'll do when I get married (IF I get married) is pick out a cool new last name for both of us.
I've already started brainstorming.
How does RAGNAROK (and yes it would be in all caps) sound?

Mine's horrible. Some of my friends thought it was cool to have "Xie" as last name. No it ain't cool imo, as people pronounce it as the letter "Z" the American way. I'd rather not take my wife's last name unless it's something I like, and I don't my wife to take my last name either.
[QUOTE="-Sun_Tzu-"]If your name was Ronald maybe Hmm, Ronald RAGNAROK. That does have a nice ring to it.Depends on the name.

i'm guessing you would pronounce your last name as Shie right? Like how one would pronounce the city Xian as Shian. roughly speaking of course. and btw, if you ask me it's a neat last name, even if people mispronounce it. people mispronounce my last name all the time.Mine's horrible. Well ya, that was years ago, now I just pronounce my last name like how everybody else pronouces it. Just got used to it, still a horrible last name.
hear hear. Seriously, the whole of marriage is a bond. To become one. Marriage is the seed that gives birth to the family. I cannot deal with that whole seperate everything crap some couples do. But whatever. What others do is not my beeswax. No since that's not how it works. If it were, I'd have no problem with it though. I hate that seperate last name crap. When you get married you're part of a family. That means one last name whoever's it is.

I would not. I like to be traditional and have her take my last name, and imagine all the torment you would get from your buddies, it wouldnt be worth it. haha

I have been asking around the elders of the family where the name came from. Even they have no idea  It's said to have an Irish or Old English origin. It originally could have been spelled Laghelas, or it could have been a nickname given to an outlaw.

Where'd you find that out? :oSounds like your ancestors was a group of thieves ;D
But I don't know, maybe if they had a surname that is 20x awesomer than Vasquez, then maybe.

I used to think I wouldn't under any circumstances, but then I met a guy whose last name is Thorkill.
I'd marry HIM to get that last name, and I'm not even gay.

I've come accross a couple of de-aths in my time (no innuendo intended). I used to like that. I've also come across a duff-dick and if I met a girl with that name I'd tell her she can keep her duff-dick (quite why Mr Duff and Mrs Dick decided it would be a good idea to combine their names to form a double barrel I have no idea).
