Okay it's not THAT bad. It's just a weird last name (for a Canadian of fully European descent). There's a football player and a character from Yotsuba who have the same name and that's pretty much it.

I had a quick read up of Yotsuba, all I could find was Fuka, its not that bad, unless you become a nun and people called you Mother.
Right now I'm not sold on the idea at all, but it's obviously something to discuss anyway so I don't expect to have an answer right now - not that I expect to ever have that discussion anyway. =[

I think that since children come from mothers, they should get the last name from their mothers and therefore, husbands should take their wives' last name so the entire family can be considered as one. However, I'm not pushy about that and I probably won't take my wife's last name because I'd probably get ostracized in my family for being "politically correct", even though that's not why I'm doing it.

Narr my surname is awesome, and I remember my gran one time saying how we have always had only one man to carry on the name before but now we have two, so I'd feel a little bit guilty if I dont carry it on one day :P

I think you missed my point. Yes there are lots of women that will take the man's lastname and therefore that won't be a problem. You may not be doomed to singleness.
But my point is that those people probablyshouldn't get married to anyone. Marriage has many stresses and compromise is essential. If you are so adamant as to not marry someone simply because of the lastname issue then it does not bode well for any marriage.That was my point.
I am indifferent on the matter.. This being a equal society, I don't see why it should be expected of the woman to take her husband's last name any more..
