Wow, Jurassic Park is turning 15!!!

I did a book report on Jurassic Park in third grade. Also- that film was fantastic. A true masterpiece.musicalmac

I gotta read the book one of these days. The movie holds a special place in my heart as it is one of the first great movies I ever saw and I was so young when I saw it.

Yup. People have become obsessed with cg but I think getting creative and using natural methods is best. Movies like Alien and Jurassic Park prove this, as the non-cg stuff is the best in the movies.

When I get into the movie business I plan on avoiding cg as much as possible.

4 is rumored to come out this year. Hopefully it will be good but so far, i dont like the plot.

I've heard of 4, but haven't heard the plot. I don't think they'll ever be able to match the first one, but if it has the same actors in it then that'll be good.

Especially when you build your Park with an over-centralized security system totally reliant upon the continuous operation of a single computer mainframe which is under the control of a clearly disgruntled employee. A great example is here in the Great Lakes where boats are bringing foreign species over in the ballast water they dump into our lakes. Those species are wiping out our own native species and throwing the ecosystem out of wack.....

It used alot of amazing robotics in the movie. The Alien seriesis a better example though as I believe there was no CGI till the 3rd movie. The CGI in the third Alien completely ruins it for me...

As for the case for most book to movie adaptations...the book was much better.Jigsaw_McGraw

Haven't read the book, but I find that hard to believe with how amazing the movie is.

Watching Star Trek does not make you a scientist. Listening to U2 does not make you a humanist. Watching JP does NOT make you an engineer, or an enviornmentalist.

Yeah, I agree with you. I watched Jurassic Park a few months ago and brought this up, and you seemed to be one of the few other people here who had thought about that.

It's not that there's a philosophy in the movie, it's that that philosophy is just plain stupid.

Still, having said that, I thought that in all other respects Jurassic Park was a superbly well-made action movie. And I am able to appreciate the movie on those merits, even if the message of the movie is a load of horsecrap.

I think the problem is that the movie was trying to make a point about how sometimes science goes too far. The movie had a big anti-progress streak running through it. Malcolm was against Jurassic Park before he even got to see how it was run, and guess what? According to the movie, he was right.

My problem is this...none of the bad stuff that happened was a direct result of bringing dinosaurs back to life. Every bad thing that happened was a direct result of piss-poor management of the park. It's as if John Hammond only spent about 5 minutes planning the park before having it built. That makes the anti-science sentiment ring false, since all the problems were caused by poor planning.

Philosophy is in no way a requirement for me to enjoy films, but the movies that make me think tend to be my favs. A Clockwork Orange being a great example of this.

And I know that enjoying films like that doesn't make me a philosopher. My love for knowlege makes me a philosopher.

Yeah it probably could have been done better in that aspect, but then again you can also twist it to mean that humans are too dumb/ignorant to bring species back into existence because they will screw up in some aspect of the process.

It is hard to imagine, but this means I saw this movie when I was 4 or 5. I still love this movie to death. It has only gotten better as I have gotten older. Definitely in my top 10 fav movies of all time, maybe top 5. I wish Hollywood would make more movies this good now a days...Thechaninator

Hit the nail on the head. In the end, it doesn't even matter if dinosaurs had been the centerfold of the movie. It could have been lions and tigers and they'd had been just as ****ed. So you can imagine how much I want to laugh whenever some says "the movie is a warning about human overconfidence!"

In one of the most agonizing scenes in the movie, we get to hear Malcolm ***** about how horrible it is that our lives "are in the hands of engineers." Hey dumbass, the helicopter you rode to the island on was built by, guess who? Engineers. His entire stance is nauseatingly dumb.

It goes like this, if the disaster happened in the real world, an investigation would be sent by the UN, or US, or whatever scientific/engineering organization felt like finding out what the result of the theme Park's lethal failure was. And the LAST THING their reports would say is "Human over confidence and out of control technological development caused this disaster." They would say "Insufficient safety measures,poor design and architectural planning,and lackluster management by John Hammond."
