I grew up in Northern Michigan...they wouldn't cancel school for two feet of snow.

Freezing rain + massive drifts = Snow day.

I had one of those once...

35 cm? :| That's nothing. Classes won't be canceled here unless there's at least 4 feet on the ground. :|

It almost never snows here. When it does, schools might as well use their snow days. It's something to be happy about. Plus no one here knows how to drive in it. But up North, snow is fairly common. The people are used to it. Why cancel anything?

Dude, Texas weather is so wierd near where I live (Flower Mound, it's right by Dallas), it's like, if you don't like the Weather, wait 5 minutes..it will either change...or get 100 times worse.

We hardly get snow down here too, but when it does snow, there's just like, a few white splotches on the ground, but the roads are so icy that there are so many extra accidents, especially around the school parking lots lol.

I hope it doesn't ice up this year, I just got use to having to do a half hour drive to and back from college this year, I wonder how ice will **** that up for me...

We had like 400 vehicle accidents in 2 hours during the first snow storm this year in Toronto (and it wasn't even a big storm).

It just depends on where you live in the US. The more north you live the more snow it will take to cancel school and such.

Not really. It depends on the area. Obviously in the South, where snow is not a common occurance, a little snow is enough to cancel schools and such. That's because they are not used to snow. Other times school is canceled out in rural areas because they don't have enough tractors to plow all the snow. It's different than when you live in the city.

I live in California. I haven't seen snow since.. 1993, I thinks. And even then it wasn't enough to cover a tree leaf. I don't even think that qualifies as snow.

I am originally from northern Illinois so am used to driving in snow, although nothing like in Canada. But when I moved down to Georgia I was shocked how the whole area stops when we get snow. I head off down the road and don't even worry about it.

In terms of just being cold, school isn't cancelled unless (w/ windchill) it's -10F and below. In terms of snow, there needs to be at least 2 feet.

Lol where I live (Australia), we never get any snow days ... we get 'heat' days if it gets to above 40 degrees before 10am, but we never get snow days ... even if the temperature goes below -5 (cold for us).

I was in Denver once and it snowed around half an inch. My friends and I heard on the radio that schools everywhere were closed, and three or four people had died in car accidents.

In less than an inch of snow.

I laughed. We drive in like half a foot of snow and we barely have accidents.

I dont think we even have the concept of 'closed schools' around here (Finland)..

Well, maybe in the countryside, but even thenit would have to be one hell of an blizzard..
