I'm a baby. I am over joyed at the idea of two inches (4 cm?) of snow, because then we'll have no school. Which will hopefully happen today, as it is snowing. YAY!!!! NO SCHOOL!!!!!

After living in Quebec and Washington, the reason is pretty clear to me why we'll cancel school so easily. First, the ground is generally cold and dry in when it starts snowing in heavy snow areas, so you just get snow on top of pavement. In Washington, the ground is usually relatively warm, so the first snow melts and ices over, so we end up with a layer of ice beneath the snow, so it's way sketchier to drive on. We also get black ice (extremely dangerous), a phenomena I never saw in Quebec or Wisconsin. Add to that the fact that we don't have (or need) huge fleets of emergency road crews, and you end up with roads that are in worse shape after a relatively small amount of snow. This is made even worse by the fact that most people don't have winter tires, so we're totally SOL.

It hasn't snowed where I live since 1989. So I don't get snow days anyways.

we get snow days in some areas because they are not properly equiped with snow plows and salt because of the usual lack of snow. i have family in tennesse, and they said school was canceled for a day over 2 inches of snow. since tennesse is usually a warm state, they dont get snow. i live in northern illinois and we had 2 feet of snow fall in one night and i still had to go to school. see the difference

There is absolutly no logic in this topic! It isn't the same in America! We are closer to the equator, we don't get the same weather as Canada! Canada has more snowy driving experience! The only schools in America who get snow days are the schools in regions where it doesn't snow that often! It's a matter of the means to do so safely. Nobody has chains for their tires in these regions. Where I live, there are a LOT of hills. School buses without snow chains will crash and burn and children will DIE!

You Canadians are such babies! "waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh HOW COMES I CANTZ NOT GO TO SCHOOL? BOO HOO... mommie make those children DIE for my concept of what is fair!"

35cm? That's it? That's only about a foot and an inch. Try walking through 5 feet of snow in Philadelphia( I don't live there, but one day it snowed that much)
