What kind of stupidity is that? If they were consistent with this punishment almost everyone would be poor.SolidSnake35
Or no one would be illegally downloading songs on the internet. 1.9 million is overkill though. These crappy, "Let's just fine one person a ridiculous sum of money, and that should account for millions of others", schemes don't work very well.

She had to be doing something stupid, like trying to sell the music. I would be in jail and fined a billion if so. But that's just stupid, not many people get caught, if they did, and entire generation of teens would be incarcerated or in mad debpt before they're 20 years old. The labels like to find one person to throw some stupid fine on to try and make an "Example" out of them, not knowing that they aren't doing anything. They need to face it, record labels are over grampa. Get hip.

Makes perfect sense. Yay, America! :?
Downloading 24 songs? This article says the fine was for making the songs available for download, not for downloading them. Which makes sense; if they just went after every single person who downloaded music, they would pretty much have to arrest everyone in America. :P
Yeah I remember a few years back this moron was using a torrent service on campus grounds at my local university and his fines were over $250,000.
Got to love that people who use hard drugs, and steal physical objects worth much, much more, usually get off with lighter fines.
There has to be more than what was said in that article. She has to have been trying to sell, or distribute the downloaded music without the rights. I mean come on, 80,000$ for a song? BladeOfHeaven
She was. See my post. As far as I can tell, the charges were the illegal distribution of the songs through Kazaa, not just their download.

Probably some mainstream crap of the 2000's.[QUOTE="DazedDarkness"][QUOTE="Freebird8877"]What were the songs?GabuEx
The article lists the artists, at least. I think that she should have at least gotten the chair for having Linkin Park on her computer. :x
That's very offensive to the ears, but not much else, so lets be reasonable...
What were the songs?Freebird8877Thats what she gets for downloading Jonas Brothers :P 1.9 million is too forgiving. Hell with it, just Round it to 2 million

Actually one of my friends was once warned by his ISP to stop downloading music or they will be forced fine him.(IDK why the ISP sent him the email) They sent him a letter in the mail and one to his mothers job and an email. I'd rather be warned then pay 1.9 million, but most cases of people being caught for this is because they continue to share the songs aftert they download them. I delete them from my share list as soon as I'm done. I don't really download music really, but when I do that's how I take care of it.

I'd be paying $0 :D If I got caught before I deleted all my old downloads however.....I refuse to guess >_>[QUOTE="BladeOfHeaven"]There has to be more than what was said in that article. Was she actually like, hosting files, or just seeding them?Yeah same thing I did, any fool knows that ypu shut down sharing, and then you erase the share folder. You don't even have to worry about erasing your share folder everytime, just get rid of the share folder and cut off sharing, and you should be cool.
Leave it to corporate America to **** all over the little people, what would say Universal do with 1.9 million dollars? Buy a new diamond encrusted chair for their CEO? Solid gold toilet? I can't imagine a large music company actually wanting 1.9 million and instead is either just sueing for the lulz or becuase they are seriously pricks, one and the same I guess...Oh well, hope she has fun in jail.
You know stealing is just that. She took music that wasn't hers and passed it on.Leave it to corporate America
