Sort of. Sort of not. I haven't worked out for a long while, so today I decide to start working out again. I only do three excercises: bench press, bicep curl, and tricep extension. After doing these three excercises, my arms are completely wiped out. That is the bad part. But it feels sort of good, as well. Sort of like BDS....Uh, nevermind. Basically, what are your thoughts on lifting heavy weights, or even just lifting light weights?

i lift 4 times a week, i used to get sore the first couple of weeks but now im used to it. Piece of advice, make sure you do different excercise than just bi curls tri extensions and benching, ull look wierd only working out your upper body and arms when u have skinny hams (legs) /no back muscles, TRUST ME i kno. also, run a mile aftr or b4 u work out ull see more changes on your body, many ppl mistake running asa way to get skinny, it gets you lean and cut not skinny. ask a trainer for help/tips or u can just look at the excercises that he does with his trainees and copy them for no cost =P thats what i do.

To tell you how much i changed when i first workd out i was FAT, like really fat (ppl used to call me the brick wall) now im lean cut and ppl call me d-flex, yes i kno its a stupid name but it just boosts my confidence. lifting raises ur self esteem as well and the good endorphins in your body are let out aftr u work out....dam i wrote alot sry i have more to say but im pretty sure u didnt read all this neway =(

seems like your just out of shape right now so you're really feeling it after your last workout. As for me I usually workout 2 times a week and play basketball at night just to stay active and burn some calories.

No, I'm not sore yet. Just tired. Being as I used all of my strength. For instance: When I'm not too tired, I can do 200lbs twice. After my workout, I could barely manage to do 135 twice, a weight I could otherwise do upwards of 15-20 times. My upper body is no longer dead, but after doing squats, my legs are.

Who said I don't work on legs? I had only done benches, bicep curls, and tricep curls at the time of posting. I just did squats. Tomorrow, I do calf raises, military press, upright rows, and one armed rows.

What the hell kind of workout was that, you need to work muscle groups not all different muscles in one day,

do

Chest/Back

Arms

Shoulders

Legs

with a day or 2 of rest in between, when you work arms you do triceps first and move onto biceps, and no matter what muscle group you are doing you should do about 4-5 exercises for each muscle. You could change it up a bit but make sure you do groups, trust me i have been working out for over 8 years and just recently got my one max rep on bench to 415. if you dont believe me look at some websites and magazines they'll give you good tips.

I work out every day except Sundays. I do different work outs depending on what sport I am in. For example, during football season I do mainly bench, squats, and power cleans just so I can maintain my strength throughout the season. During pre-season of football I do a lot of the major lifts. I do several power lifts, bench (incline/declined), squats (front/back/over-head). I switch off doing low reps with high weight and high reps with lower weight. I usually don't do curls because ultimately they do not really help me strength-wise for sports. All they really do is pump up your arms and make them look good for the ladies.

Track season I am a jumper so I concentrate a lot on plyometrics. I work on my hip flexors a lot. It is just a lot of increasing power and explosiveness in my arms, hips, and legs. These workouts also play a big role in increasing my speed.

So I pretty much love working out. I love seeing myself getting bigger, stronger, and better at sports.

Sorry if this post was longer than it needed to be haha. I love talking about this stuff.

As i've said, I wasn't done yet. I just did squats. And I am going back out soon to do military press, upright rows, and one armed rows. I do everything one day, and take longer breaks in between. Also, I am getting help from people who know their stuff, namely my dad who played football in highschool and who was plenty strong, plus teachers and coaches (the coach can also bench over 400lbs).

EDIT: I actually sort of misquoted myself there. I am doing every body part today, just to get a benchmark for everyting.

You are right. I've been lifting weights for a long time also. I'm not as strong as you when it comes to upper body mainly because what I want to accomplish has to do with my lower body. I squat around 450 give or take as my one rep max.

There are ways to get a lot stronger very fast. I worked out with a former navy seal for a couple weeks or so. He put me through some of the workouts that they had to do and it is just insane. Like you said, you would normally work out certain muscle groups depending on the day. But the seals do it different than that. They work out their whole body in one day. And they continue working out like this every other day, not letting their body recover all the way. With a high protein diet and these intense workouts you gain muscle mass very quickly. THe only downfall is that it is extremely difficult because your body gets so run down.

Dangit, I need some dumbells. The only real back excercise I can do is bent over rows and deadlifts, which are fine, but dumbell rows are just much easier. Also, it makes curls much easier obviously, plus I can then do flys and shoulder raises. I won't work out untl I get some dumbells, don't want my back and shoulders to go underdeveloped.

If your on a football team, especially the highschool fb team then your required to lift weights, unless your not even in high school yet or your the teams waterboy, but without the mad tackling skills of adam sandler.

I lift 5 times a week. Lifting heavy makes me feel good.smokeydabear076

I used to lift weights, but my dad kicked all of my equipment out of his garage into this shed, and that shed got infested by like 50,000 giant wasps which I tried to kill and failed miserably...LOL Now it's too cold out there...

Anyway, my thoughts on lifting...Don't use creatine...LOL I did for awhile, but I had the powder form which made me feel really nasuous while lifting which was probably dangerous..

Now I resort to marathon sessions of DDR on Xbox (really nice, I can burn 500+ calories in one session), and hacky sack while listening to music... It works for me.

Hey Navy SEALs are pretty tough bastards but, Marine Force Recon > Navy SEALs:P any way SEALs dont lift weights per say they will do log lifts and high endurance runs with logs, you essentially workout your entire body no matter what. But you wont gain muscle mass quick if your body doesnt have time to recover, over working your muscles can lead to tears and you will eventually get weaker and possibly injured. But if you aren't doing heavy weights and are mainly doing exercises without actual weights, you could build a significant amount of lean muscle and muscle endurance, your workouts all depend on what your aiming for.

I lift weights 3-4 times a week or play racquet ball with my friend when I don't lift.

It feels good, although can really tire you out.

I am 6'5 and I started when I was almost 15.

Anyway I took a break from lifting Thanksgiving week and this week I feel like I was hit by a truck or something, it's a good feeling though. Lifting is weird like that.
