WTF Happened to Rap?

Anyone know what happened to it? It just seemed to die off for some reason. By this I mean GOOD rap died off. Well, I know it is out there but why would the general population that listens to rap think Lil' Wayne is the BEST RAPPER EVAR! when he has lyrics like "so high I could eat a start". No mainstream artist seem to put any meaning their songs anymore. I guess people who have good songs won't ever be that popular, Lupe for example. IMO, the only good and popular rapper out there is Eminem, but only some of his songs. I miss the classics like 2pac, Biggie, NWA, Ghetto Boys, and LL Cool J. I guess the golden age of rap has come and gone.

Oh BTW please don't come in here and start a flame war against rap music. I listen to a wide range of music, mainly Rock and Heavy Metal.

Well, I'm no expert at these things....But I'm guessing that it became more mainstream among diverse audiences and that may have watered it down for specific tastes.

Just look at JUSTIN BEAVER! The kid thinks he's a rapper/pop artist, doesn't he? He's appealin' to the pre-teens! We got pre-teen rap! Yay.

Underground rap and hip hop is where its at. Also would Akrobatik be considered underground?

It's not hard to destroy a genre founded on boasting. At some point someone had to go overboard. that said, I enjoy a very VERY small select amount of rap songs and artists.Daavpuke

I got a wide range in rap. "New" artist Wale, Kid cudi, B.O.B. pretty mainstream but I think they got some really good tracks.

Other rappers I think is good Mos def, Common, Rhymefest, Outkast.

I still like westcoast rap I enjoy rappers with that 90's west coast style, Nipsey Hussle and The Game who is actually my favorite rapper.

Old kanye is very good music, his first and second album are great, graduation was good, but 808's was just weird. I wouldnt say it was complete crap as it was a concept album but i really dont care for it.

I used to be all about Rap in the 90's and early 2000's. I can't even listen to "artists" like Lil Wayne or T-Pain anymore. I've completely switched musical preferences. I can still listen to classic Tupac, Biggie, Run DMC, Public Enemy, etc, but now I only listen to rock and metal

I would have to agree with you on the main part of your post, but I do like Lil Wayne, his older work was much better than the crap he's been doing lately. But yeah the rap today sucks its all R and B nonsense like Justin Beaver

I stopped following Rap like two years back because it just started to suck.
